I think its safest to give it a good few weeks and let all the other fookers across the world download it first and find out what, if any, problems exist.

Look at the state SP2 was in when that was publicly released, the amount of trouble it caused for people...

To be honest, if you've just installed it, that doesnt tell me much; its only when you need to do something important you find Microsoft have made a change for the worst, or even worse, completely fooked things up.

SP2 didnt have any "noticeable" out of the box issues; it was only as users delved deeper they found things were not working.

But yep peeps as matty said if you dont want to try it then dont just wait untill the shit hits the fan and we find out if its ok or not hehe.. happy

Ive just downloaded it.
But to be honest my sp2 systems are running sweet.
I wonder what its fixing?

Would be handy to have an sp3 exe when its rolled out in full.

The downloaded exe is WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe
Just for reference.

Ive now deleted it.

There's a link to a 324 Kb PDF near the bottom of the page which claims to be an overview.

I was offered this as an update yesterday, but didn't install it, remembering that a lot of people had problems with SP2. Anybody know anything about SP3?

Cheers, Chris.

It should be fine Chris, I have been running it for a good few months now with no issues whatsoever (admittadly, I too was hesitant to install it and left it for a few weeks after release before upgrading), its a nice update from Uncle Billy, which given the recent track record, make's a much welcomed change.

I have a feeling Microsoft put their heart and soul into avoiding a repeat of the SP2 farce, as it severely damaged consumer confidence (a fact illustrated perfectly by this very thread).

Thanks, guys. So, are there any benefits in installing this? I guess I could download it any time from the Microsoft website.

Hi chris, With the installation of XP SP3 i noticed a speed increase of my pc but to be honest didnt notice anything else different.. Its also great if you do a reinstallation of SP2 and instead of downloading over 99 patchs its just quicker now to download that.. happy
