Where do i start... oh yeah this is scotts old pc frown

Its a P4 3ghz
1 gb ram
120 or 160 gig hdd (cant remember)
Gigabyte motherboard

Here's the story:

We had a problem getting the pc to even switch on, so replaced the PSU with a slightly higher spec one (300 to 350 watt), the pc now powers up.

Then it wouldn't load at all, so i ordered and have now fitted a brand new motherboard which is the exact same model as the original one, same revision code too.

The pc still wont load up, even with just the hdd and dvd drive plugged into the m/board

ANY IDEAS ?

Before i go down the local computer shop and ask for help there

Thinking processor myself

Do you get to the boot screen?

Try changing the RAM and graphics card; most problems like this are memory related.

It's rare for a CPU to die unless its being overclocked. Especially an Intel.

Got it running

A mate of mine managed to work out that the processor wasn't in its slot properly

Just the fun of re-installing windows to come now

Just how do you do that?

I'm amazed its worked afterwards, and no pins were damaged.

Im wondering if he had forgotton to put the active heatsink on; otherwise, as you rightly say, pins would have been crushed, especially with the force that the Pentium 4 heatsinks press against the shim!!
