This may have been mentioned before but I think it's worth mentioning again.ICE came about from an idea that a paremedic came up with. It's a very simple but effective idea. You simply put a contact number in your mobile under the heading ICE.You can have more than one number so you could have ICE1 followed by ICE2 etc. If you're unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident and the paramedics go through the numbers in your mobile, when they see a number under ICE,they know this is a contact number. The problem with that Rude is that they will be looking for "ICE". They are not to know that you have put it under "an emergency number". Just because it is first in the list, doesn't mean it will be spotted. You know it's there, but they won't necessarily put 2 and 2 together.
I have 4 "ICE" numbers in my phone just in case the others don't answer.

It's a nationally recognised scheme now jimbob, I'm tempted to say probably international.
The problem with just having wife/husband etc is that time is of the essence in situations that require the use of this number. I still have my ex husband in my phone as husband but that's due to a standing joke (I'm still in his as wifey ).
It's much easier for the Emergency Services to search under one word as opposed to going through the whole contacts list. Not everyone is married, or has parents etc or even someone they have to contact in such a situation.
It's a "covers all bases" heading really.

If I had 2 ICE contacts, I'd be tempted to call the 3rd BABY
...Sorry....
Didn't know about the ICE contact though, might have to do that now....who wants to be mine? lol
