IMHO you cant go wrong with a Seasonic S-12 600w, unless your build a quad SLI rig

When ever my Hard Drive is connected with the IDE
My system becomes unstable again.

Going to get on to Hitachi Deskstar see what they thing.
If my pc's not good then i'm not good frown

is it still happening with media player and trying to burn a disc?

Im thinking less a hardware problem and more a software problem

Try dual booting Windows, and see if you have the same issue in a second version.

It might not be the drive, it could be the motherboard... or indeed any hardware.

wink

I'm in the middle of a "Advanced Drive Fitness Test"
Which will take the best part of 6 - 8hrs.

It is one of those needle in a haystack problems.
Just when you think you have sorted it, it bites back.

Ive changed IDE's so its now a slave on a diffrent channel.
And it continues to happen.

For some reason if its unplugged the system can be come
stable, but its just a mass of change one thing check
the list again, its slow but i guess i must be making
some head way. As Frustrating as it is.

Yeh the Dual Boot will be one of the next things.
I'm convinced its a Driver issue but which one is the question.

Funny enough somthing that has got my attention,
is if i shake, well spin the HD in my hand next to my ear
it sounds like somthing is loose? Metal on Metal is what
it sounds like, which ive informed Hitachi about too.

None of my other drives make any noise if i do similar.

All HGST/IBM drives sound dodgy and make weird noises, their acoustics have never been upto much...

But the speed of their drives makes up for a bit of noise.

My laptop hard drive and my media centre hard drives/my old PC hard drives, both of which are HGST/IBM, sound dodgy, especially if shaken, sound like theirs loose components or the platters are rattling/arm touching them, but the laptop drive seems fine, and the 180GXP's are getting on for 5 years old now, one is nearly 6 years old and not a problem.

So dont be too concerned about rattles or acoustics, its just the weird shit they do normally. Youve heard my media centre, when it sounds every now and again like the hard drive just died for a split second... but its the most reliable PC ive known lol.

Hitachi have been really helpful up to now,
and almost too helpful like they know there is a issue with
this type of drive?

There saying that they will swap it even though i cant raise
a RMA from the software.

All the Drive Fitness Tests Pass.
And which i was surprised at was it has a 4 year warrantee
so I'm covered until 2010 also if i have any physical issues.

Still trying to sort a second boot.
Ive had some crazy error messages etc.
Somthing is not right confidence is slipping in my trusty pc frown

Summary

The Power Supply is fine.
The Hard Drive was sent off and now Royal Mail have lost it. frown
Ordered a New Pc and the last of it arrives tomorrow.

I came across some strange errors re-installing xp
which i will start new topics about.

And apparently there more common than we may all think.
