Sky has announced that its Sky Broadband service is now taken by over 1 million customers.

Sky claims that the service, which was announced in July 2006 after the broadcaster acquired Easynet, is connecting a new customer every 40 seconds.

"We’re not only the UK’s fastest ever growing broadband provider, but we’re also delivering a high quality service that is saving customers significant amounts of money," said Sky CEO James Murdoch. "Thousands of customers are switching from other providers to get fast broadband that comes with Sky TV."

Sky's announcement comes a week after Neil Berkett, acting CEO at arch-rival Virgin Media, said that the cable operator plans to concentrate its marketing spend on broadband.

Wow! Phenominal, it goes to show that with the extreme demand for the service, that the problems that a small minority of people have unfortunatly suffered, can only be expected with a growth rate like this!!

Next major target will be 5 million I think lol, but if they can get Picnic launched, along with their nearing 10 million tv customers, this is a very real possibility!

Me mum is soon to become a Sky Broadband customer too...
