Alan Parker's joyous comedy about the rise and fall of a working-class soul band in contemporary Dublin sees Unemployed Jimmy Rabbitte is asked by his friends 'Outspan' Foster and Derek Scully to manage their dismal band. He starts by sacking their keyboard player and advertising for real musicians, ending up with a ten-piece band, including 'Deco' Cuffe, found singing blind drunk at a wedding and 45-year-old trumpeter Joey 'The Lips' Fagan who claims to have played with Elvis, Otis, James Brown and The Beatles and is accepted as the band's musical director and inspiration. Calling themselves The Commitments, they immerse themselves in soul classics and gain a local following but Jimmy wants one decent paying gig. Then he hears that Wilson Pickett is in town for a one-man show...

Im watching the Queen atm Mark, and half an hour in (just paused to brew a Yorkshire lol) I have to say its been very good so far.

It is making good use of archive footage from the time of the 1997 General Election to the time of Princess Diana's death and the days afterwards.

The actors are playing their characters well and the storyline is taking the piss out of both Tony and Cherie Blair (and the Labour party in general) and The Queen (and the Royal family) a bit, which slightly lower's the serious tone of the movie, but not in a bad way, in a good way.

Its also giving a rather good insight into the ways of the Royal Family and their private life.

Will report if it remains good later on, but so far so good, and if you havent watched it yet, id say its well worth giving a try.

Watched it all the way through, enjoyed it a lot, deffo worth a try for anyone, its quite a light hearted drama but also tackles some quite serious and important issues.

The Helen Mirren plays the role of the Queen excellently, all the actors in fact play their roles to a very high standard.

Overall, id give it 9/10 for watchability.

Television viewers all over the world are familiar with the iconic images of destruction and devastation that followed the collapse of the Twin Towers. What people don't realise is that underneath the gargantuan mountain of rubble that greeted rescuers was an extraordinary world, hundreds of feet deep, which held even more incredible stories.
