The company has now admitted that this change to its billing is significant and therefore enables customers to get out of their existing contracts.

O2 was the last mobile company to include such calls in bundled minutes, indeed, many of the newer telecommunications providers view calls to non-geographics as an important revenue stream. Customers signing up to O2 since March already have to pay for such calls outside their bundle but, in common with most phone users, many are unaware of it.

Customers who signed up prior to March should have received notification of the new charges by text message; and they have one month from the receipt of that message to get in touch with O2 if they want to cancel their contract. O2 has told us that such requests will be honoured, but only if received before the end of September.

Me is gonna phone up and play for a new phone and new deal hehe... I like o2, but am well taking advantage of this lol.

Me contracts up at the end of next month, so I will play it as though im really not happy with this change lol.

Lol, be fair, they were the LAST network of the lot to offer non-geo calls within the inclusive minutes, the rest stopped it years ago, or never offered it at all.

Its just something that they have obviously wised up to that it can be an important revenue stream, which is fair enough given the fact they have now come out and stated that customers can get out of their contracts if they are unhappy with the changes (or, in my case, negotiate a new contract early), although they wont get a better deal elsewhere lol.

Fair play to them, they are a business at the end of the day and if I found I had some way of generating a lot of revenue, that all my competitors had been doing for ages, it would be viewed as lost revenue in business terms.

Yeah man, you should get a new phone, and also talk them into a better deal then your current one grin

They know the ball is in your court and will have to fight a little to keep you as a customer!

Yeah, I been with o2 since I was about 12 on PAYG, then 18 on contract, and never had a problem with em tbh, they are quite fair and honest. Customer service is always fast and polite and dont bullshit ya either. And British (well Scottish lmao).

Never had any major problems with Three, but didnt like the way their customer services worked and also they billed me for the same bill three times and it took over a month to get a refund (the bill in question was over £120, so £240 was a LOT of money to lose - im glad I lived at me mums at the time lol).

Yeah same ere, although im on a high street contract nowadays, only because about 2 years ago I left o2 n went with three, wasnt best pleased after the bill shit, went into Phones4u and got paid out on me 3 contract to take an o2 one lol.

So I have both online and paper billing, managed to upgrade to a free K800i last November and got them to agree to give me LW for the full 12 months and 600 mins and 200 texts for £35 a month (should av bin £45 and LW for 6 months) lol, not a bad result hehe.

Im moving across to an online contract this time though, as I have no use for the high street tariff now, 1000 free texts and for them to keep me as a customer, I will be looking to lower the price of the contract to less then £30 a month haha, this new revelation gives me more power in my quest grin

Some tips I have picked up on so far:

- They may try and say "but you dont phone 08xx numbers", but it doesnt matter, because the change still constitutes a major change to your plan.

- They may bring contract clause 8.4c (on my t&c's anyway) in accordance with clause 8.3 into play, if you dont use 08xx numbers much. Again, the result is the same the above point and it isnt a valid refusal reason.

- They are having a great deal of people who are using o2 for business cancelling, because they were using the contracts heavily for 08xx numbers. So, in a few days, they will be desperate to hold onto customers and the retention deals will get better by Monday and easier to obtain.

I actually got a phone call from them not long after this... telling me I can upgrade today if I want. Apparently they been trying to ring me for a week or so now. Weird as my 12 months isnt up until 23rd November.

But, I tried to get a P1i out of em, and they wanted £39.00 for it on a 12 monther. They were trying their hardest to get me onto a 18 monther but i wernt having it.

As it was, I wasnt very interested at the time, but I shall be phoning tomorrow and telling them that I was told I could have a p1i for free with the contract specs I was offered hehe.

I shall see what happens... i havent even used the cancellation line yet.

Maybe they are trying to get everyone onto new contracts that wont be subject to this clause??
