Amnesty International said officers using the weapons in the one-year trial may not have been properly trained.

The Police Federation said Tasers were becoming necessary on the frontline.

Until now, about 3,000 Tasers had been issued in Britain, but only to members of police firearms units.

Sweet. They should all carry them as part of their standard kit imho. And CS Gas. And they should be able to use the CS Gas to force gangs of youths who are refusing to seperate and causing problems within the area.

Give the powers back to the police I say!

But thats like saying what if a trunchen or a gun gets into the wrong hands Joe.

At the end of the day, what do you expect them to do, not to carry weapons "incase" they get into the wrong hands??

wink

true, true.

I'm all for it, but the other problem is officers taking power trips and using it when its not needed.

99% of the time, the officers will only use such methods to restrain a violent suspect or to defend themselves/protect the public.

Of course there will always be a small minority of officers who abuse their powers, but on the whole they abide by the rules.

If someone is resisting arrest, the police should imho have the powers to use methods such as CS Gas etc against them. It is my opinion that you should only have a reason to resist arrest if you have something to hide.

The sooner the government give powers back to the police and stop arsing about with all this human rights shit and paperwork, the better imho.

Them two girls caught on CCTV the other day for instance, should have been targetted by an ARU and forced to drop the weapons. They should then have been prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

But instead, the security guard and police didnt take it very seriously, and they will, if ever caught, most likely get a slap on the wrists.

I agree. Bring back the cain. I aint bein funny or nothin, but I know for a fact I wouldnt have been half the little shit I was in school if I was worried about getting the cain lol.

This country is built towards helping troublemakers/criminals, our punishment system is so feckin weak, now wonder the social decline is accelerating faster then a Veyron!

Yep, it needs nipping in the bud, and the only people in a position to do this (parents and teachers) are getting more and more restricted as to how they can punish a child.

whether they have tasers or not the police are always gonna be confronted with the worst case scenario (more hevily armed criminals)

Yep, and we can't disarm the police, otherwise its we may as well all just give in and let criminals run the country (having said that with this pile of shite Labour government and their pathetic idea of a justice system, criminals already feel like the VIP's).
