Boy, 11, dies after pub shooting
An 11-year-boy has died after being shot in the neck in the Croxteth area of Liverpool, police said.

The incident happened shortly after 1930 BST in the car park of the Fir Tree public house on Fir Tree Drive.

Police said the victim was with two other boys when someone rode past on a bicycle and fired three shots, one of which hit the boy.

He was rushed to Alder Hey Hospital but police later confirmed that he had died.

Officers are at the scene and police are treating the shooting as a major incident. No-one has yet been arrested in connection with the shooting.

'Gangs of youths'

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We treated an 11-year-old with serious gunshot wounds."

He added a bullet had hit the boy in his neck leaving him in a critical condition.

The boy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two teenage boys have been arrested after an 11-year-old was shot dead on his way home from playing football.

The pair, aged 14 and 18, were held over the murder of Rhys Jones who was shot by a youth on a BMX bicycle at a pub car park in Croxteth, Liverpool.

A family friend said Rhys spent his last moments with his mother, who raced to the scene when told of the shooting.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said it was a "heinous crime that shocked the whole of the country".

The BBC's Nick Ravenscroft said police were expecting to make more arrests, either later in the day or during the week.
