All the available info. is in this thread; I know it's 29 pages, but there you go. There is no possibility of access now, as the Council have comprehensively sealed them.

Cheers, Chris.

Hi r.o.a. (nice handle smile )
There is a thread on Flaybrick Mortuary Chapel, with a bit of discussion about the masonic symbols. I have always found it a bit bizarre that they feature on a 'Christian' building.

Masons can be Christian, they can also be Jewish or Muslim.
As long as they believe in some sort of "supreme being".
It's believed to have it's origins in the construction of King Solomon's Temple according to legend.
And they tend to devote a lot of their time to charitable causes.
Doesn't sound very Satanic to me wink

Hi,

im new to all this so bare with me.
I,m not sure how many people who have posted items ,have been in these tunnels but i lived on Hoylake Road for many years and have been in the tunnels many times albeit years apart because the council and all the local kids were in a constant battle, seal entrance up ,dig it out, seal it up ect.

Well heres what i remember about the tunnels inside hope it helps. As a side note can i just put in a disclaimer that this is a memory its not intended as a virtual map.

Going into the entrance of the tunnel, which is off the main field of the Rhods (short for Rhodedandrum Gardens) you drop down straight away about 3 foot, walk forward about 12 foot and you come across a wall you can walk around this wall either left or right and coming round the wall you are then in the main tunnel walkway. If you kept the wall to your right hand side eventually you would get back to the entrance.

Walk forward a 100 yrds and there is a passageway on your left if you walked right down this passageway and turned left there is a steel type door, the entrance to the outside is by the rocks directly behind the houses on hoylake road.
There is probably 15foot of compacted earth ,me and my brothers/mates tried to dig this out many years ago but believe me you have absolutely no chance.

Back into the tunnel walk away fron the steel door and just keep going as straight as you can the tunnel turns right slightly this will lead you round to the steel ladder, very rusted and broken away ,half way up there is the remains of a siren or possibly something to do with ventilation above this is the blocked up remains of the entrance to Bidston Hill.

The only way i can decribe were this is is that there is a private road by brow road/boundry road halfway up that, turn left and about 50-100 yard there is a 10ft circle that is the exit.Hav,nt been there for years but i only came out of that exit once in all the times the tunnel was opened.

Back down the ladder and keeping left there was another storage room(i think) but keeping to the main walkway and keeping left will take you right back to the tunel entrance.

Inside the middle area are passages with smashed urinals and the odd bricked wall (great when we were playing hide and seek if you were small enough to get behind) and thats it really.

I think its a shame the council do brick it up because i think in the right hands it could be tourist attraction, like when the windmill is opened the tunnel could be opened the same day.
However in this day and age i certainly would,nt want my kids getting into a dark tunnel in the middle of a forest!!

Anyway it,d be nice if anyone could add to this or if they,ve got any stories about the rhods...

cheers
