THE family of security guard Robert Street plan to sue his employers for negligence after Wirral Coroner’s Court returned an open verdict on his death.
The 59-year-old grandfather had been working at the Bloor Homes Wilmslow Ltd development of 33 houses on Statham Road, Bidston when he was struck by a gate during storm force winds.
Employed by Liverpool firm, Total Security, he clocked in at 4pm on Friday December 1 and remained on duty until Sunday morning when the site manager returned to make inspections.
Mr Street, nicknamed the BFG by friends, opened the 2.6m by 6.3m gate to allow entry but when he arrived the site manager noticed the gate swinging freely out toward the road.
He went over to discover Mr Street lying on the road side, the gate between his shins and blood pouring from his nose and mouth. Wow, that is quite a surprising verdict. How the hell it can be anything other then an accident caused by and act of god/force of nature I don't know. icWirral News Report

There's no evidence...Whitnesses, CCTV etc that says the gate definately struck him....Its probable but not definitive. He could have been assaulted and left in that state. Here the Coroner can only say what the cause of death was, and not the circumstances. Rock and a hard place! But still not nice for the family.
