I have always stayed away from supermarket fuel since my mate's motor bike had to have expensive repairs as a result of suspected "watered down" fuel supplied by Tesco, if this proves to be true, it will be quite damming. Im glad I stay away now!

They denied all knowledge.

Rain water gets into the tank vents, and waters it down.

Look at it another way. Shell/Texaco/Esso/BP and co spend billions developing and refining fuels, Tesco spend nothing, they simply buy the bog standard unwanted fuel from the big boys via a 3rd party company. Shel and co add cleaning agents to their fuel, which actively help keep your fuel system in good working order.

Imho, its worth going to the likes of Shell and BP, firstly it doesnt usually cost anymore (in fact the Tesco in Bidston is more often then not dearer then the Shell in Moreton) and secondly there are far too many stories of supermarket fuel being low grade (Many internet forums and independent reports suggested that Optimax at 98RON, was better then Tesco 99RON for both performance in imported Japanese cars and MPG overall).

I just stick with the big boys, the companies thats sole industry is Oil, they know what their doing.

Be honest, you dont really know what extra damage supermarket fuel can be doing to your car as opposed to brand name fuel...

It might not actually damage it, but the cleaning agents in branded fuel help prolong a fuel systems life and the extra refinement leads to more MPG, more performance and less pollution.

I pretty much guarantee the people who have had problems with the Tesco and Morrisons fuel they have bought, were of exactly the same attitude as you prior to the problems.

Its not worth the risk imho, a few Christmas dinners doesnt make up for £1000 cat's if you get problems with them one day.

i filled up from tescos at the weekend and mustve lost about 10bhp at least, and i suffered a mis-fire

i raced my mates celica on that fuel and he was on bp high octane and it was much closer than it should've been! he had his nose to my tail all the way to 120 leptons then i pulled away tease

done my best to dilute with texaco after hearing about all this crap
