I thought i would kick of with a top on Windows Vista,
Should you be in a hurry to upgrade?

Release Date End of Jan 07

What should you be aware of?

The Obvious answer is NO dont be in a hurry to upgrade,
if microsoft follow its legacy of releasing half finished
operating systems, then i cant see this one being any diffrent.

Either - wait until you hear about a service pack.
Or give it at least 6 months until more feed back is out there.

There are Multiple Versions ?

1. Windows Vista Starter Not available in the uk.
This packages is only for the poorer countries.

2. Windows Vista Home Basic New -$199.00 USD. Upgrade - $99.00 USD.

3. Windows Vista Home Premium New -$239.00 USD. Upgrade - $159.00 USD.

4. Windows Vista Business New -$299.00 USD. Upgrade - $199.00 USD.

5. Windows Vista Enterprise
Only available to Volume Licence Holders.

6. Windows Vista Ultimate New -$399.00 USD. Upgrade - $259.00 USD.

So if your Running say an XP Pro edition and you would
like to continue with the flexability you have now,
Vista Ultimate is the one for you £ 205.00

If you want to know if your pc is up for the New Software you
can visit microsoft Requirements

Hope the above helps you smile

I don't think I'll upgrade until its been out for at least a few months or until service pack 1 (and the 2nd to fix the first :P) have been released.

Very pricey for something that could be so problematic.

Everyone just switch to Linux to stop Bill Gates making so much money and bringing out crap buggy software for rediculous prices.

P.S. I likes this new topic smile

What makes this ANY better than XP? I really dont think the OS can make any real difference to how the PC does its thing, as long as its stable i dont care. It can talk about security etc all it wants but when u have the most up to date security suite on ur PC anyway why wud u want to use vista's inbuilt security which will no doubt be non-updatable with the latest virus info etc. its not like u'll get free updates wit the latest virus stuff. Microsoft really do blow arse IMO.

Now that vista is out there in the public domain,
ive heard a lot of storeys of issues.

Modem / Broadband connections and Hardware issues.

But the one that i haven't seen yet but only heard about
is that after 6 Days any Hooke software on a Vista Machine
is disabled..

Anyone heard or seen anything more about it?

Hooke = did not pay for a licence or the foundation of your pc

Example : if you say had a "Copy" of Office then after 6 days it would stop working and say would you like to pay for the privilege ?
And i guess any of the other big boys out there would also
be in on it to protect themselves against privacy.

But this is what ive heard.

I'm guessing he meant he bought one with it pre-installed

a cheap way (but a slightly risky) to get a cheap legit copy of windows is to buy some cheap hardware, a cd rom maybe? and get an OEM copy of windows. I can get OEM Vista Ultimate for £75.

Again, you are treading on thin ice in licencing laws, but who is going to come after 1 person?

Personally, i am going to do exactly the same as i did with XP, i am going to wait a couple of years and buy a new PC once Vista's bugs have been ironed out.

My bro paid nearly £1k for a gaming PC about 6 months ago, bought vista the other month, now his graphics card and sound card don't work. It would probs be a driver issue, but he not got the internet to check lol.

I learnt too the hard way with XP
i'm waiting for SP1 before i think about it.

Personally a Laptop with the free upgrade to Vista
would be the option i would go for ATM

People keep saying where is the "WOW"
and its no faster?

Just to clear things for future reference, you no longer have to buy a hardware component alongside an OEM version of Microsoft software under the new license terms introduced by Microsoft last year.

So ye can buy Vista Home Premium OEM willy nilly without any worries for £66 hehe.

smile
