Thanks for the info Scoop and the offer Kris. Much appreciated. Been reading through the Haynes manual and it has quite a lot of detail for removing and refitting the engine, but not many pictures.

do you know the engine bay well? when i did an engine change on my old xr2 it looks daunting as the is so many bolts/wires.
check in the haynes for compression ratio's/bore/stroke and check that they are the same only as this may* be different.
the other option is to take the head of the webber or get a head from the scrappy. get it rebuitl then fit the new headgasket. as thiw would take 8/10 hours for a novice. aslong as the haynes manual is used
*at a guess

Lol, good advice there Webby. Got a quote from my favourite garage yesterday, the owner rekons about £200 for an engine swap from one car to another. So, I will have to decide what to do now lol. I aint got the money for that atm, so if I dont do it meself, it will prob be a month or two before it gets done hehe.

I was speaking to Dazza yesterday, and he rekons £200 seems a bit expensive for a straight engine swap from one car to another. This includes removing both engines and installing the good engine into the good car. What price range should I be expectin? I thought £200 sounded alright, but no I am not so sure...

£200 is a good price mate. Allot of work involved, remove 2 engines and then re-fit one and crossing any problems that will occur and there will be problems (Trust me) and after all of that you have to get it running right.... £200 is a steal for a proppa job

Thanks Scooby, thought as much. The garage is a straight up garage and their labour prices are pretty cheap, ive had a lot of work done by em in the past so I trust em. People are still suggesting I should do it myself, but I don't think I will be able to, knowledge wise or skills wise. Id rather have agarage do it, they know what their doing and will do it properly.
