from what i know, having a power boost valve on its own wont make too much of a difference. You need other engine mods; like larger throttle bodies and an ECU remap to get the most out of it. Theyre used to increase the fueling to the engine (i think). But like i said, they work best with other engine upgrades. Simply putting it on with larger throttle bodies wont make much difference cos the ecu will still only allow the standard amount of fuel and air flow into the engine. Hope this helps laugh

Thanks Ben but what are throttle bodies?

can you chip a 1.2corsa? <img border="0" alt="[are u mad]" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions050.gif" />

I thought that when you increase the petrol intake you must increase the air intake to keep the mixture the same. Is this wrong? <img border="0" alt="doh" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions051.gif" />

So how much extra BHP/MPH do you think I'd get outta one of these, a full induction kit and a sportex exhaust on a 1.2corsa C SXi 76bhp standard?

HOW DOES THE POWER BOOST VALVE WORK?

The Power Boost Valve is a high performance tuning part which replaces the original equipment valve (fitted to the vehicle).
A range of models are available to suit a wide variety of European cars, which almost certainly includes yours. We are continually developing new designs to expand the number of applications.
We outline the benefits of the Power Boost Valve by drawing a comparison evaluation:
Ref: Original Equipment Fuel Pressure Control Valve
The electric fuel pump supplies fuel at a high pressure to the fuel rail and injectors, which is then regulated by a fuel pressure control valve. Typically, the regulator is not adjustable and is pre-set to a 3 bar maximum pressure. At idle the fuel pressure valve reduces it by 0.5 bar approximately to 2.5 bar. When accelerating quickly from standstill the fuel pressure increases at a proportional rate retaining a lean fuel mixture strength as required by the E.E.C. for new vehicles. However, the resultant effects of the standard valve produce:

  • lethargic throttle response
  • occasional drivability problems at slow traffic speeds
  • intermediate performance 'flat spots' when accelerating

By comparison:
Ref: Power Boost Valve (replacement)
Firstly, this valve has an adjustable fuel pressure, effected by the movement of an adjustment screw on the crown of the unit.
New Power Boost Valves are pre-set with a maximum fuel pressure of 2.5, 3.0 or 3.5 bar, depending on the vehicle in question, and similarly (to the original valve) the fuel pressure is reduced by 0.5 bar approximately at idle. There the similarities end.
On acceleration from standstill the Power Boost Valve fuel pressure will increase at 1.7 times the standard rate. This will produce a healthy, strong fuel mixture strength which will instantly improve the drivability of your vehicle, providing:-

  • instant throttle response
  • removal of performance flat spots
  • faster acceleration
  • extra engine performance

The regulator enhances engine performance on acceleration by enriching the mixture strength. On constant throttle and cruise conditions the valve returns to a normal regulator function.
The Power Boost Valve is simple to install and in most instances basic fitting instructions are provided. These units are mechanical and are considered maintenance free.

The throttle Body is the Butterfly where your induction pipe meets the engine, The accelerater cable normally joins to the outer throttle body. This allows the air into your engine via your air filter or induction kit.

Yes you can Superchip a Corsa, however the power gains are quite poor alone, possibly 5-6 BHP. Superchips work best on a Turbocharged car as it "Tweaks" the boost settings to provide more BHP.

That is basically correct, A Power Boost Valve does not provide any more fuel, simply provides it faster under a higher pressure, Quicker throttle responce.

You would probably get a 10 BHP power increase with those mods done, it you removed the catalyst also you would squeeze several more bhp out of it......

Thanks scooby, thats cleared things up a bit.
in your opinion would it be worth paying £95 +fitting to fit this to my corsa. (how much would fitting be?)
But if I de-cat it, then when I go for a service will they kick off and void the warranty. (the car is only 4months old with a 3year warranty) but atleast I dont need an MOT.

also Can you please PM or e-mail me an autosafe quote for fitting a sportex backbox, K&N or pipercross full induction kit and lowering it 40mm springs and dampers. Please include seperate prices, dont think I could afford it all at once unless there was a discount for having it all done at once.

Thanks again scooby and ben
