Around 1979 when I was 15 I was allowed to attend an art college on Whetstone Lane, Birkenehad. This was instead of a double art period (2 hrs) at my school where I and others were probably thought good enough to attend a proper art class.
It was a bit daunting at first as all the other students there were 17/18 +
Does anyone have any memories of it and does the building still exist ??
Did anyone attend about the same time ?

Birkenhead Institute left in 1970 and I can't remember what happened to it until Beechcroft Training opened around 1982 (maybe as part of Wirral Chamber of Commerce Business Centre). It is now a Mosque and Islamic Centre.

I have seen reference to Wirral College of Art, Whetstone Lane.

There's reference to Wirral College of Art, 1979, at The Laurels, Park Rd East, Laird Studios, Park Rd North, later on Birkenhead Tech and Wallasey.

Good find Bert! I didn't realise Laird School of Art did more than clothing design, painting and sculpture, cooking was definitely a surprise! Looks like it covered everything that was presentable.
