The History of New Brighton Tower & Grounds

One of the most important structures ever built in Victorian Britain, the tallest building in the land, it stood at 567 feet. The Tower had been constructed in record time.
It towered over the greatest port in the land, a beacon to the shipping that sailed in and out of the River Mersey.
The Tower Theatre, sited between the legs of the tower, could accommodate an audience of 2,500, while the ballroom the largest in the North could entertain another 1000 couples dancing the night away.
Taking a walk down memory lane, and chronicling many of the famous faces that have trodden the boards including the Beatles that appeared 27 times.

I'm reading "kiss me like a stranger" the autobiography of Gene Wilder. Autobiographies are my favourite books; one can learn so much from how another person conducts their lives! I loved him in Blazing Saddles and more so in the enchanting story of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I've just finished David Jason, "My Life." I found this one a little hard to get into but enjoyed it when I did.

The world in 2030.
It is a book with an idea of what the world be like in 2030 and was written in 1930 by the Earl of Birkenhead.
I have only read the first part of the book and it is very amusing.

"Should chemistry in the next hundred years be able to discover a dozen substances as pleasant and harmless as tobacco, yet each possessing a different effect on the consumer, it will have earned the thanks of every hard-worked man and woman in the world."

He also talks of extending our lives and that old age will be kept at bay.
"The attraction of such an idea, especially to women, who will no longer grow old quickly, is too clear to require emphasis." oshocked smile

A contoversial subject he discusses is ectogenesis and breeding slaves.
"His only happiness would be his task; he would be the exact human counterpart of the worker bee." He does state though this is unlikely to happen.

For those that can read ebooks (eg on a kindle)
I can recomend a site where you can download various genres of books
for less than £8 for as many as 50 books as one lot.
