No idea if anyone can throw a light on this. My gt gt grandfather and his family were listed in the 1861 census as living at The Farmers Arms in Moreton. He was a Wheelwright. The landlord was a Mr Naylor. My research shows the Farmers Arms was built just a year before. I can only presume they had rooms there. His name was Joseph Brassey Does anyone know any history of the Farmers Arms around that time?

I don't think Joseph Brassey lived at the Farmers Arms but one of several houses, etc, in the Township of Moreton, as described on page 1 of that section of census forms (Ancestry)
If he had rooms at the Farmers Arms he would have been recorded as a Boarder or Lodger on the census form. If you go through that part of the census, very few properties have been recorded by name or number.

1861 Mawdsleys Directory,

William Naylor, Farmers Arms, Moreton,
Joseph Brassey, Wheelwright, Moreton,

Which suggests Joseph lived in an unnamed/unnumbered property.

The 1851 census, Joseph is recorded as Joseph Davies having married as Joseph Davies Brassey, I'm sure you know this. His next door neighbour and there's no way of knowing the distance between properties is Thomas Meadows, Victualler, Moreton. This property is probably the Farmers Arms or what became the Farmers Arms later.
