I'm surprised to hear that, all the ambulance crews I've come across have been brilliant.

Can't say I've always heard the same reports as yours. However, it has mainly been crews from a different area, as they cover far and wide from 3 different bases in the NW region, but operational in Wirral. Home grown crews might have a rather more compassionate attitude !

I read your comments with interest about the UK. We have been fortunate to be able to return to Wallasey many times since coming to NZ in 1969 and have always enjoyed our stays (spending time in Scotland and York as well) but the last time we visited it all seemed to go pear shaped from the moment we got into a taxi at Heathrow where the driver did nothing but moan about tourists, the weather, the government etc etc. We found for the whole of our 6 week holiday this was the general demeanour of just about everybody we had contact with - just an overall cloud of doom and gloom. In fact the two highlights of our visit which cheered us up was the security guard at the St Georges Hall in Liverpool who came and spoke to us whilst we were taking photos outside (it was closed at the time) and he asked us had we ever seen the wonderful Minton floor inside. Neither of us had so he took us inside and gave us a tour (the floor coverings happened to be up at the time) we were blown away by the wonderful floor. The second brilliant thing was when we were at the Liverpool Town hall just having a look in the lobby and a lady asked where we were from, when we said Wallasey/Moreton originally but now lived in NZ. She asked had we ever seen the City of Liverpool Silver Ware. We hadn't so she took us into this room which had all the cabinets with the precious gold and silver which had been presented to the city over the decades - it was beyond description.

I am not saying that everyone here in NZ is always jolly and positive (especially during Covid times) as they aren't but I feel for people from other countries travelling to the UK and maybe going home with the wrong impression - as an island the UK has so much to offer in the way of history, scenery etc., and even after 50plus years we still miss so much of it and it will always be 'home' warts an' all.!!

Here endeth my lesson for the day LOL

I was in St Georges Hall yesterday. Such a beautiful building, unfortunately the tiled floor was covered though.

"but also getting the admittance admin sorted out can take many hours on some occasions.

The last time I was with a crew member they were pleased to get the admin cleared in less than one and a half hours and said it had been three hours the day before. On my way out on the same occasion one of the long corridors was chocker with trolleys and ambulance crews who were looking brain-dead from the wait, then I found the queue carried on round the corner."

Then you wonder why you wait ages for an ambulance, they has to be a better system in place to speed things up?

As for not being able to see a doctor these days i thing we are going down that road of you pay to see a doctor/
The NHS has been in a mess for the last forty years, the billions it gets and it couldn't cope with covid or treat people at the same time, but other countries around the world did it, now we have our taxes going up because they stuffed it up, Well done the clown at number ten!

We rely far too much on importing nurses and doctors, we should train more staff and treat them fairer during training.

Every time money goes into the NHS the upper paid worker make a money grab then there is a chain reaction for other wages as well - we need to stop the shortage of staff that allows this to happen.

The NHS GP public health system is falling apart, only roughly 35% of GP's are salaried and 70% of those do not work full time. The majority of GPs (over 50%) are partners which effectively means their practice has been privatised. The remaining GP's are locums (around 15%).

Basically GPs in Urban areas are privatised and rural areas are still public, because partners draw their salary from the profits of their practice which is less viable in rural areas. Partners usually earn more (sometimes a lot more) than salaried GPs.

GPs reckon it is unreasonable to treat nine patients a day and they are worked too hard.

Whenever the Government want GP's to do something they have to bribe them, a classic example of that was to increase blood pressure monitoring with GP's getting a bonus of up to 30%, this turned out to be wasted money as it didn't increase health. Whilst GP wages are often talked about, GP's income is not, there are a lot of extra payments available and it is not uncommon for a GP to offload that work onto lesser paid staff.

GP's are now being told to see more patients face to face.
This is going to get a lot worse with 1,900 fewer GP's today than it had in 2015.

The practice nurses do a lot more now, blood pressure, various inoculations, diabetes reviews, I found our practice nurses are quite good.

The practice nurses at my local surgery are also excellent and do all types of things. However, what really gets up my nose is when I manage to actually see a doctor and in the course of his diagnosis he needs a nurse to change a dressing or similar, I then have to pay for a doctors visit AND pay for a practice nurse visit. For anyone with something that is ongoing this can become extremely expensive. Luckily we live in a semi rural area and our doctors aren't too expensive, but our daughters live much closer to cities and they basically have to budget for visits to the doctors.
This kind of thing has caused our Hospitals A&E departments to be overwhelmed with people turning up there rather than pay for a doctor visit - it just seems a vicious circle world wide!

I don't agree with Dr's being privatised; I feel that as a patient, I won't get the best of care due to this because money is involved, so therefore a Dr can pick and choose what they will and won't do for any given patient, albeit some patients that they don't like and or need more specialised/more time/care!

To me this is a huge concern!

Another issue that I am concerned about is Dr's receptionists! Now whilst they are supposed to keep everything highly confidential, some people can't hold their own water can they! Whilst most are pleasant and helpful, you always get one that has the totally wrong attitude and shouldn't be in that job; they are the one's that put patients at risk!

I object strongly to receptionists that think their role is triage, they are neither trained nor qualified to perform triage, all they need to know is whether you need a regular appointment or an extended appointment if you think you need to see a doctor.

It is also important to note that a patient is also not qualified to diagnose themselves, that is why we have trained medical personnel.
