Hedgehogs, as we know are becoming scarce. There is a programme going on to help them and trace the sightings. This site has all the information you could need, and there is a map to put your post code into, to find out how many sightings have been reported in your area. You don't have to log in. You can report yours, can make a hedgehog hole and have it mapped and find out how we can help them. They can travel 2km and more a night, and they need access from one garden to another, so maybe making a hedgehog hole in your garden could help them survive. I put out water and food for them every night now, as they need their body reserves building up for hibernation. Please help them . https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/

There are two talks about hedgehogs this weekend at Goredale Nurseries. . One today and one tomorrow both at 2.30pm . Probably too late for many to get to today's, but why not tomorrow ?
In my area , there was an old path running across from the farmland up to the mill on the hill. The pathway went across the bottom of my garden. This was going as far back as the 1800's I believe. Looking at the map of my area, the reported sightings of the hedgehogs seem to be following the path, or closest to it, although they now have to cross a main road.
So I shall be going along tomorrow to ask a few questions.

I can't find the connection to the map, from the link I posted. So here is the map. Put in your postcode, and then enlarge your area to see where there are any around. You can also log your own sightings on the map without becoming a member. Let's make Wirral ' Hedgehog Lovers' Also a hedgehog rescue centre at Larton Stables , Greasby. Interesting to look at. https://bighedgehogmap.org/

Re-booting this topic. Ideal time for making hedgehog houses, keep the children occupied. Lots of ideas for making a hedgehog friendly garden. Have a look at the map, put your postcode in , zoom and see how many sightings have been logged in your area. We might not see any yet, but they will be coming out of hibernation. Hedgehog food can be bought online. Mealworms are NOT good for them. (Robins like mealworms though ) Lots of hints and tips of what and what not to do. https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/?fbclid=IwAR2yPU9UhIZ9yKFWj_VOu3B4brvBt7l1kCEq7lsEnRYu_ry8hxyWNFvfClM

Have you put your sightings of hedgehogs on the BIG hedgehog map ? We are doing well in various parts of Wirral. I bet Wirral could be the best in the country if everyone took part and logged their wee little friend. Let's all join in and become the 'hedgehog paradise' of the North. https://bighedgehogmap.org/

I bet they are still around, Cools. They seem to have a route they follow year on year on year, i.e.if they can go from one garden to another . Travelling about 2km per night and their route will cross gardens , main roads , fields, anywhere .A bit like the elephants trails in Africa but smaller . Well, I thought you might like to know my update. Over the last week, my regular little one (late baby from last year) seemed to disappear. Food not being eaten, and no sign and I was beginning to get worried something had happened. Tonight, just after the stroke of midnight , she was there with her Prince Charming, and he making all the advances. Such a long process, dancing around and around in circles, I gave up watching, but also felt a tad unwelcome in the front row stalls with nose pressed up against the window . This can go on for hours , apparently. So , I assume as May is the month for procreation my little Sleeping Beauty has been out having fun ! Neither sex are very particular and from all accounts , have extremely loose morals. At least I know she's ok. and the hedgehog family will soon be growing. He looked a bit gruff. I hope they aren't ugly babies !
