Wirral council have just bought VUE cinema for £7million and taken back the freehold on Birkenhead Market so they can "completely reshape the town centre" according to the Wirral Globe,
sound ominous "reshape" flatten?
another pie in the sky promise that will just line the pockets of so called consultants and these mystery development companies.?

I wish they'd turn their attention to demolishing the Pyramids! Indeed there is quite a lot of Birkenhead that would be greatly improved by the arrival of the lads of the demolition squad. It's hard to find much I'd want to keep. I never visit the place unless I have to, and never fail to be depressed by it.

I must admit Birkenhead town is one of my least favourite places, accosted three times on my way from the station to the shopping centre, for money or a ciggy, I avoid now and carry on to Liverpool.

They could get rid of the horrible flyovers whilst they're at it.

They could get rid of the horrible flyovers whilst they're at it. They are planning to get rid of the flyovers. It will be interesting so see how they expect the tunnel traffic and the through town traffic to cross in the mornings. Perhaps a couple of underpass to the tunnels? The flyovers are becoming a liability, Liverpool are demolishing some of theirs because of massive internal corrosion to the internal structure. In response to previous earlier comments Conway Park station was built with expectation of using the land behind it to become the main shopping centre, how many years has that not come about so far? I always wished for the Hamilton Square/Woodside area to become the shopping centre, it is a natural hub for transport even though it has its "back" to the sea. Instead they built the Land registry and Child Support buildings which would have been much better nearer main housing areas.

This is a Council that is putting up our Council Tax again this year who moan it has no money but can spend £7 million of our money just like that!, and who killed Birkenhead off in the first place? Why on earth would you build a bus station in the centre when you had one in Woodside, maybe then they could have carried on with running a proper ferry boat service! Be if they have millions to spend maybe they should provide the services we are paying for, how many roads where flooded after the snow last month, because of grids were blocked and never clean out on a regular basic's, how many roads are still in darkness because the street lamps are still not working? how many pot holes broken pavements have still not been reparied? road markings, litter, over hanging tree's missing signs etc etc etc
