We are so behind in the worldwide recycling arena. Admittedly we don't have the odd patch of land to start building, but it could be a project with giving some land for the homeless people who fancy having a go, and to get stuck into.
I'm sure many would enjoy the challenge, if they dropped out, someone else could take over. There are some really great ones.
What do you think ?

I agree that the people with the big money who are able to build should be far more innovative about building methods, and build many more quick-to-erect homes to solve the housing shortage, but I think they'd have to do something about creating structures that would last, not crumble, and overcome the inevitable local resistance to anything that looked 'different'. Kit building of energy-efficient homes that are created off-site then basically bolted /glued together seem to be the way to go; if recycled materials can be incorporated for structure and/or insulation, better still. Creativity and vision are needed, and openness to new ideas. Building with bricks just takes too long, when you need a lot of homes in a hurry - apologies to any brickies on here!

Swansea-based Affresol,

Thermo Poly Rock (TPR)

A WELSH company is using recycled waste plastic destined for landfill to build new homes.

Swansea-based Affresol aims to build 3,000 homes a year and says its range of low-carbon homes and portable buildings could help revolutionise the building industry.

The company has built its first property, a detached show home with a garage, at a Swansea industrial park and is awaiting Building Research Establishment (BRE)accreditation before building 19 homes in Merthyr as its first pilot project.

Each house is built using 18 tonnes of recycled plastic waste sourced from companies which make uPVC windows and doors. Also certain plastics from tips

That sounds really promising, Derek. I wonder exactly how much it has cost to build, and if they would be considerably cheaper to purchase than the bricks and mortar homes.
With all of this, I still think at the end of the day the only way to tackle the ongoing problem is to stop producing plastics . If they find plastic houses are cheaper, all they will do is produce more plastic for the purpose.

Seen some fabulous houses on tv from containers. Think it's a great idea, pretty strong and long lasting eh?
