Doesnt seem right does it not even getting done for the knife carrying . Bit more understandable that he got off for murder though if the jury still couldnt all agree after all those hours of looking into the evidence. Stockbridge village is a rough area, do you think the jury were scared ?

That's why we have courts of law. To hear both sides, examine evidence and witness statements, see the accused, and allow ordinary folk to come to the best conclusion they can.
Most of us are not clever enough to come to a verdict simply on the basis of a tabloid report or bloodlust.

Maximum of 4 years as an offensive weapon, no guidline sentencing for blades http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/l_to_o/offensive_weapons_knives_bladed_and_pointed_articles/#a14The jury seemed to think that as he was so outnumbered that it was a mitigation? As he admitted he had the knife for self-defence that should have gone against him, if he said he carried it as a deterrent that is a lesser offence because there is no intent to harm.

Just found out the five years is for a firearm not a blade however he still should of been jailed for carrying.

https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/possession-of-weapons/If you are caught illegally carrying a knife or a gun, even an imitation one you will be arrested and prosecuted. It is no excuse to say it was for your own protection or you were carrying it for someone else. So perhaps he was not charged with that offence.

He'll get an awful crick in his neck if he does that, as well as bumping into things all the time.

How long had he served before this court appearance? Maybe that attributed to time served for carrying? They all sound like a really nice bunch of lads anyway.
