Ok, try opening firefox in its safe-mode. Whatever you click to open firefox, hold the shift key down while you click (or double-click) it.

This disables all add-ons etc, see if the problems still happen while its in safe mode. Exit it and open firefox normally and see if it hangs in there.

BTW have you run malwarebytes, if anything unusual happens it should be the first thing to do, just in case.

Or in chrome ctrl+shift+i for developer mode and click on the security tab will show you insecure items "may have to reload page"

I finsished a trial of full MWB yesterday (I was having this trouble before that) and today they keep asking me if I want to have the updated free version and Im not sure . I presume before running it , that that will be ok to do?

After that, Im not sure about opening FF in safe mode and knocking off add ons because I wouldnt know how to reset FF which it says I would need to do.

I always switch the MWB trial off as soon as I install it and just stick to the free version. Its good to let it do the update.

Firefox safe mode doesn't do anything funny, it loads in safe mode with the shift key, the next time its run without holding the shift key it loads the same as normal, nothing special to do.

I'd forgotten about firefox reset, used it once a long time ago, considered it too much hassle to have to make all my customisations again to bother using it again.

MSE is showing insecure in FF safemode as well as ordinary .

I thought Id upgrade to the supposedly newer version of MBytes before running it , so clicked on the yes button this time they asked me (its been coming up every whipstitch and Ive been clicking it off) and I agreed to the change etc then the wizard is announced, and then this screen came up " unable to execute file in the temporary directory . Set up aborted. Error 5. Access is denied. I clicked cancel , and then another screen came up saying the installation would complete until closed and reopened . It did that, but when it reopened , no MBytes of any description remained .Just gone!

Not sure if I understood you correctly, but I used chrome to bring up MSE and then forum, then clickd on sec tab in dev mode and it just confirmed it was an insecure site, but didnt say anything about reloading or anything.

If the same is happening in Chrome as well as Firefox then its an operating system problem.

Re-install malwarebytes from https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/

Don't click any "upgrade" buttons, big difference between upgrade and update.

This explains some of it I reckon. I emailed MSE and got this back.

While secure sites are really needed in this day and age, the amount of work it sometimes creates can be a nightmare.

I've converted most of my sites relatively easily (because I wrote all the code) but there is one which uses 3rd party software I'm unsure about and another site which I haven't got a clue where to start so that is in limbo. The problem isn't so much the doing, its the testing to try and find if any features have been compromised.

Mark did very well converting WikiWirral, I was logging in pretty often to see where he had problems but he did such a good job that I learnt nothing, good for him, less good for me smirk

Not really allowed to say on here, I don't do any commercial ones but I have over ten sites for different purposes.

There is one that Mark gave me permission to use in my signature which is fuller sets of pictures of my explores etc, its got over 10,000 pictures on it from 170 visits. I don't want to link it publicly yet as I don't want it to pop into google before I decide if I'm going to carry on using the 3rd party photo-gallery software or not.
