Poor old April the giraffe STILL not given birth yet. Surely it must be soon now unless the park has been seriously capitalizing on the imminency if it.

South Lakes Safari Zoo licence has now been refused.

There seems to be numerous unnecessary problems there.

He may be able to appeal, but if he's kept his animals in such bad ways, he should be facing a case of animal cruelty and neglect, in my opinion without an option of saving his skin.

Questions must surely arise on who has issued the licences in the last 4 yrs, who qualified has inspected the zoo etc. They should all be questioned. Councillors alone, are not so far as I'm aware, very well educated in so many different species of wildlife including their needs, dietary demands , habitat and exercise levels etc.

Zumba's Story.

Share some great news: TODAY THE LONELINESS ENDED FOR ZUMBA! One of the the most crushing things for captive animals must be the desperate loneliness of isolation from their own kind. Nine days ago, Zumba, the spider monkey was chained alone in a circus in Peru. But later that day, Animal Defenders International raided the circus with wildlife officials from SERFOR (ATFFS Lima) and the Ecological Police and today we took him home to the forest. TODAY ZUMBA MET HIS OWN KIND AGAIN! Zumba is now in the ADI facilities at Pilpintuwasi near Iquitos. He will be monitored in an enclosure within the main spider monkey habitat before a full re-introduction, but he is already able to make contact with the six other spider monkeys – all rescued from circuses, restaurants and the pet trade by ADI. Pepe, head of the family, was first to check out Zumba who looked suitably submissive and soon afterwards the other spider monkeys were swinging down to check out and groom their new family member. What will be going through Zumba's mind as he swings about his new enclosure and as he goes to sleep tonight surrounded by the sound of the forest and the calls of other monkeys? Thank you to everyone who helped this important rescue that confirmed there will be zero tolerance for any circuses in Peru attempting to use wild animals following ADI's enforcement of the ban.

Precious cargo. An unconscious Zumba is carefully loaded into his travel crate for his journey home. Zumba started his journey back to the Amazon forest

The Plain Bison/Buffalo of Canada. Reintroduction to Banff National Park.
Great success story after almost extinction. I like Canada, Snowshoes; they seem to get a lot right. smile

Interesting video on the history.

Independence Day for Raju.

Three years today since Raju was rescued. He is doing well, has put weight on and is part of a group or other rescued elephants now.

This also shows what they are capable of .. Don't get on an elephant folks !

Lovely to see the rescued elephant granny. Phew, wouldnt like to cross an elephant when its annoyed though . Made that tuk tuk look like it was paper mache - and as for the people they had a go at - truly awful . Wonder if its a case of previous cruelty and then they suddenly 'flip' -go insane when they cant take any more.

If you saw 'For the Love of Animals' with Paul O'Grady in India, Wildlife SOS where Raju now lives, was one of the rescue centres he visited and helped to give Mohan some special care. Another rescued elephant that had been a working elephant for 50yrs used, abused and starved.

This below is another elephant ,70yrs old, partially blind, and rescued just about a month ago on 17th June this year. Gajraj, a temple elephant that has had a grim life. He was taken 1500km to the rescue centre, over 5 days of travelling with long stops when too hot. What I found amazing was his natural instinct after all those years, to give himself his first ever dust bath on the second day after his arrival. We have seen him in the pool but since then we have not been given much in the way of updates, apart from playing with one of his enrichment toys. He is still being treated and brought back to health in the centre ,so we await news on Gajraj in the not too distant future. It takes a lot of time and trust on the part of the elephant, only when the time is right will he be introduced to any friends. That bell should be off by now, but as it had been on all his life they said it was something they would do in time as psychologically it can be harmful to remove it too soon.

Wow didn't like watching that compilation of the elephants on the rampage, felt so sorry for them and especially that poor elephant that was standing still when the other attacked him. Poor elephant must have just had enough. Poor thing..

Wow...that was a challenge . I wonder if it was the same elephant too ? The other was obviously a wild one, this was tied up ! Maybe recuperating.
