When Clatterbridge hospital becomes outpatient only in 2018/2019 when a tranche of services are moved to Liverpool, does anyone know if we will keep St. John's hospice and Claire house which are both obviously inpatients?

I thought the hospice was getting updated and staying
May be wrong but that is what I heard last year when a friend was in there

I hope Mike,it's a godsend to Wirral and means the patients and family don't have to travel too far.

I was under the impression that the Bebington Clatterbridge Cancer site is going to be refurbished , and will deal with day patients but the in patients and main services will transfer to the Liverpool Clatterbridge hospital .

However , was having a blimp at this earlier , am I reading it wrongly or does it imply the Cancer site is at high risk for being sold off for housing ?

http://www.hscic.gov.uk/catalogue/PUB20907 its the middle link you want. The trust is number 36

Meant to add I didnt think the hospices were going to be affected .

There have been rumours for the last 5 years about Clatterbridge Oncology Dept. closing. It would certainly surprise me if all units closed. Maybe certain types of cancer will be shunted across to Liverpool when others will be treated at Clatterbridge. They opened the Papillion Centre in 2013 which is revolutionary .They also re-furbished two of the main cancer wards about 4/5 years ago.

"In 2013, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre opened a dedicated Papillon Suite, fully equipped with the brand new Ariane Papillon machine enabling even more patients to be treated with the revolutionary technique. The treatment offers patients a better quality of life as they don’t require major surgery and the procedure itself takes a matter of minutes."

So far as building on any land previously used with radioactivity and the masses of equipment that emits it, is possibly questionable. There again I know not how it works or is contained.

Oops, apologies, the surplus land doc I was originally looking at was out of date, (the one that said it was high risk for housing) the one Ive posted, is the most recent one , and implies there wasnt a buyer and is number 200

Neither St John's Hospice nor Claire House are NHS, they are independent organisations.

I'm not convinced that inpatient care is staying- this document is a tad ambivalent.

I quote from http://www.clatterbridgecc.nhs.uk/p...re/about-the-clatterbridge-cancer-centre

"The new centre, expected to open in 2018, would be located on the Liverpool health campus alongside the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the University of Liverpool and other key research partners. The Trust would continue to operate outpatient services and proton therapy at its Wirral site, as well as its outpatient radiotherapy services at Aintree and the outpatient chemotherapy clinics across Cheshire and Merseyside. Inpatient services and complex chemotherapy and radiotherapy would move to the new centre but the majority of Wirral patients could continue to receive their care at the current site.

The project has three key benefits:

Seriously-ill patients with other health conditions (e.g. heart, lung and kidney) as well as cancer would have on-site access to intensive care and support from other key medical and surgical specialties for the first time. This is becoming increasingly important as the population ages and has more complex health needs.
It would mean the main Clatterbridge site with inpatient chemotherapy and radiotherapy expertise was much more centrally located for the population it serves, reducing travel times for the majority of patients. Around 70% of its patients live north of the Mersey, whereas the Wirral site is in the south of its catchment area.
Bringing the Centre onto the same site as the university, Royal Liverpool and other key research partners would significantly increase opportunities for groundbreaking research and clinical trials, enabling patients in Cheshire and Merseyside to benefit from greater access to the latest expertise and treatments
