The attempted coup against Corbyn has failed, they have now admitted that he would win by a landslide if there were a leadership election.

However, these MPs still resent the democracy that has taken place and there is still a risk that Angela Eagle may raise a leadership battle.

Its simple - if you don't want to represent the party members then leave the party! The Labour Party supports democracy and these MPs clearly do not - create your own totalitarian party if that's what you want.

If these MPs continue to stay in the party then they should be put on a status whereby if they attempt or support another leadership challenge in the next X years then they are automatically expelled from the party. It is the only way of regaining stability.

The Torygraph? Now, I am surprised....

As for Angela, I would still like to see her de-selected especially after the LIES coming from Tessa Jowell. Grrrr

Waste of time.... unnecessary division.....smears ....lies....The PLP are an absolute embarrassment.

Listen to the members, listen to the Union leaders and lets just crack on and finish the fractured Tories. IDS gone, Osborne finished, Cameron resigned, Boris finished.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Jeremy Corbyn has weathered the storm that was kicked up against him by his own MPs.
Perhaps the ‘Chicken Coup’ (so called because none of the ringleaders have dared to admit their role in it and because nobody dared to stand as a leadership challenger against Mr Corbyn because they knew he would win) was intended solely to remove the Labour leader because he has been an outspoken critic of Tony Blair’s involvement in the Iraq War, and their failure to do so before the publication of the Chilcot report means it is pointless to go on.

Perhaps they just ran out of steam.

Whatever the case, Mr Corbyn is left with a Parliamentary party consisting of many MPs who don’t want to work for him and don’t respect the will of their party’s members that he should remain leader and they should work to promote his policies.

That’s an untenable situation.

So should the rebels quit the Labour Party? Should they quit as MPs? Should their constituency party members have them deselected and replaced in time for the next general election? Let’s have your votes.

Thank you for voting!
They should be deselected by their constituency party 49.05% (828 votes)

They should quit the Labour Party 18.72% (316 votes)

They should quit as MPs 14.51% (245 votes)

They should go through the party's disciplinary procedure 13.8% (233 votes)

Other (please explain in the comment column) 2.37% (40 votes)

They should be allowed to continue as before 1.54% (26 votes)

Total Votes: 1,688

Since only one in six labour voters in Corbyns own consteuncy is a party member it would appear the tail is trying to wag the dog. This was a chance for a new political era, with a fresh honest and forward looking Labour Party.Instead it goes back to the old dogma of the past that has been rejected by the majority of the voting public. It is just as well he will never be in a position of trying to deliver his "pie in the sky",which would expose him as just another political windbag. The Labour Party is now a collection of Riff Raff wanabe politicos of very dubios makeup and motives.

There's four times as many Labour Party members than Conservative.

Furthermore the Conservative Party is split from its constituencies the same as the Labour Party SOURCE

I have no time for any of them DD. but it would appear more people voted for the "cons" in the manner that counts, to put them in office. My obsevation is about missing a fantastic opertunity to go forward with a mandate to satisfy the majority rather than the few, from a socialist point of veiw. I have had friends in the WRP and other groups who scared me with their views as does Jeremy.I believe he is a puppet for others who if known would be totally unacceptable to the average British voter. He admits he did not want to be leader.Best Wishes, I hope I am proved wrong.

I'm pretty sure Corbyn isn't as far left these days as some media try to portray him but he could end up with considerable pressure from the far left.

Corbyn isn't ideal but he's the best in the Labour party at the moment and is a breath of fresh air after blairism.

Leadsom is ultra-right which is very worrying, its a shame as she can present herself very well.

Theresa May has voted moderately and sensibly on many occasions but may prove too stubborn, we need a Prime Minister not a dictator.

If the Scottish connection is disintegrated, that at least will be a pleasing result. (probably the only one)

Brexit is not the problem, Corbyn is about to give the biggest nod and wink to Putin. He's an idiot. His only supporters of the equivalent mind set of little 18-21yr old girlies who have been captured by his granddad approach. If I hear once more, "but he's a nice person" somad

If he's all that can be delivered in this day and age, then Labour deserve to fail, and badly. Don't for goodness sake suggest chuka umunna either......another waste of space who is being groomed for future reference. He can't even string together two pieces of correct information within the same paragraph.

Unite Press Release
For immediate use: Saturday 9 July 2016
Len McCluskey statement on the Labour Leadership
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said in response to Tom Watson’s statement issued today (Saturday 9 July):
“I am dismayed at the statement issued by Tom Watson announcing his withdrawal from talks aimed at resolving the crisis in the Labour Party.
“Extraordinarily I received no notice of this statement before it was issued. I had made arrangements for a meeting of trade union leaders, Tom Watson and representatives of the PLP and the Party Leader for tomorrow, arrangements requested by Tom Watson and his colleagues, specifically for Mr Watson’s convenience.
“In that context, when the possibility of a workable plan had never seemed closer, Tom Watson’s actions today can only look like an act of sabotage fraught with peril for the future of the Labour Party.
“I must clarify one point in Tom Watson’s statement - I made it absolutely clear from the outset of these discussions that Jeremy Corbyn’s resignation as the Leader was not on the agenda. Mr Watson knew that, and it is entirely wrong to suggest that any public statement by Jeremy represented any change in the situation. This is a deeply disingenuous manoeuvre.
“I will continue to work with trade union colleagues and others to chart a way forward, including meeting the legitimate concerns of Labour MPs. Should there have to be a leadership election, I must warn that any attempts to keep Jeremy Corbyn, elected just ten months ago with an enormous mandate, off the ballot paper by legal means risks a lasting division in the Party.
“It is time for everyone to commit to a democratic and dignified procedure as the only way to avert such a disaster for working people.”
