Bentley Flying Spur The Bentley Continental Flying Spur is capable of reaching over 200mph, which makes it the fastest four-door saloon in the world. This car also appears to be posh, popular and practical all at once, so Fifth Gear decided to put it to the test.
We sent Tom Ford off on a 24 hour tour of Britain to find out how the Bentley will perform on the drag strip of an American Muscle Car Show, under the scrutiny of some of the world's coolest superstar DJ's and at an open air Proms concert - complete with Spitfire fly-by. Full Road Test Try not to laugh, but despite the £115,000 pricetag this is Bentley's "entry level" model. The Flying Spur is the saloon sister of the Continental GT coupe and shares the same mechanical underpinnings - that means four-wheel drive and a VW-group twin-turbocharged W12 engine that produces a massive 553-bhp and pushes the Bentley to a top speed just shy of 200 mph. Star feature is undoubtedly the cabin - filled with wood and leather like Bentleys of old, but now benefiting from vastly more equipment plus dramatically improved fit-and-finish. Plenty of leg-room for rear seat passengers and a vast boot mean the Flying Spur should be perfect for high-speed, long-distance touring. Running costs are massive, of course - under hard use fuel economy dips below 10 mpg and depreciation is likely to be high - buyers in this segment tend to prefer coupes or cabriolets to saloons. - List Price:
£115,000 - Typical Monthly HP:

One of the major factors is the Bentley being totally hand crafted. It would have mattered about 20 years ago, but nowadays, it's just another cost-cutting mobile castle owned by Ford or something. I'd prefer the Impreza, purely because it's the opposite of what the Bentley stands for. I didn't realise they were that fuel hungry though!!

i agree scubby would prefare your car to the bently as i'd have to disagree on there conclusion it was n longer a gar for the more stuck up in the community. but that westfield xrt4 looked a hell of a car now that would be fun to throw around track(up to 225bhp as standard rear wheel drive race car) and for 30 grand not to bad well alot cheaper than the bently anyway

If you could afford the Bentley, Im sure you could also afford the Scooby 2 Totally different cars, and its unfair to compare them. Sure the Scoob may be quicker, and more fun, but Id rather go up and down the country in the Bentley, plus, the engine in the Bentley is big smooth and powerful to aid the comfort / cruise of the car on motorways, not stonk round country lanes

Theyre 2 completely different cars.
One's a Luxury motor and the other's a rally bred tarmac muncher.
Id say the Impreza is a driver's car, whereas the Bentley is a car to be driven in.

I disagree (Oh the contraversy!) You have the Escort for balls out pleasure and stupidity, So why not get something to pamper your behind? That Bentley is v nice, its 500bhp + and may be 'slower' than the imprezza but think of the extras you would get!

What if you ran out of NOS, what would the figures be then? They're two completely different cars, its like me compairing my little 1331cc to the 34k 04 reg BMW 325ci convertable i smoked, mine was quicker in the race we had, but they're completely different cars.

I am not comparing the cars themselves but the fact my Impreza has better/Similar performance for £105,000 less than the fastest production saloon car in the world. Just thought it was an interesting point

Definately an interesting point, but i'll sit on the fence and agree wif every1 else, too difficult to compare the 2 cars!!
I know one thing for definate tho.....No insurance company is touchin me on either of them for a good few years, so nothing to keep me awake at night about!!!

well i think that the main dirrerence is that the bently could sit at 200 mph all day long and the engine wouldn t even get hot enough to cook an egg on, thats got to tell you some thing

nothing much will touch the scooby, was good to wipe smiles off ferrari and porche owners on a regular basis, funny to watch a 10 grand piece of tin show up a 100 grand supercar. Some people just dont realise how quick these cars are.

there quick, but don t last long, a ferrari or any other relly expensive sports car is built to last at silly speeds and handle at silly speeds and it a unique piece of machinery
