It works both ways, percentage is a good indication of majority (proportion) displayed as one figure eg

If I said that there are 50 broken items in my warehouse you can't tell if that is significant or not, if I only have 100 items in the warehouse then its very significant, if I have a million items its almost irrelevant, the corresponding percentages are 50% and 0.005% which give an instant indication.

What I don't like about media statistics is they often don't tell you the scope eg If the Wirral Globe says 30% of people have had measles, are they talking about in the Wirral, in England, in the UK or in the World?

There are always ways of wording things to mislead, whether intentional or not, part of that comes from the old problem of trying to create a statement that is true. The standard answer that is often used is along the lines of "I am going to die" but that is not a certainty for a number of reasons, a good answer I came across is "I have written this sentence" which I think would be better as "I have thought this sentence".

Then there are perfectly true statements that appear to be contradictory when they aren't eg (along the lines of) 70% of people that have had measles have had measles.

Have I out-rambled you?

I personally would like to be told about actual numbers as well as %s, as I think just a % is a way of dumbing down things so that they more or less just go over the general population heads.
Typically %s made by politicians and the media.
Another bugbear with me is when politicians often say a majority of people want what that politician wants done.
How do they know what 60 odd million think or want at that particular time (apart from general elections or referendums results which could change further down the line)
Can many mps answer an awkward for them a straight forward question with a yes or no answer

sorry for rambling on

Cheers, worth a shout i guess. All else fails i could give the recycling centre by the old Mobil plant a bell and see if they have many knocking around.

I know sometimes you see them knocking about on side streets either dumped by globe/wallasey news deliverers or something.

Thanks chaps. After trawling through scores of restaurant websites and menus and paying a visit to 5 finally bit the bullet and booked Red Fox out near Thornton Hough. Had a shortlist of 3 but whilst sampling a nice pint in the red fox booked on the strength of a woman walking out clutching a 60th Birthday balloon.. ! Unfortunately wont have the bus pass in time to get bus there..if indeed it has a passing service.
Must say some lovely places to scoff on the wirral. Only one i felt didnt quite live up to its hype having heard so many positives about it was The Refreshment Rooms. Didnt eat there so cant comment on the food. Done a good job in turning it back into a pub... the pensioners menu was ok but breakfast at £10 seemed bit ott.
Thanks for the Jug and Bottle recommendations..never knew it was there looks like a decent gastro pub with good real ale selection..will sample its food soon..

Wondered if anyone here has any old newspapers lying around, ideally 20-30 of them?

I don't care really about the contents as they're going to be used to line an indoor rabbit hutch. Where i live we used to get 7 or 8 wirral globes delivered weekly and i used to use them (none of the other residents were bothered about it so i took them all) but we haven't had any since mid december so now have no spare newspapers!

Ideally any paper boys/girls who got a load to br delivered but weren't able to deliver them so have them in the wrapping knocking around, i'll take them off your hands no questions asked. But anyone with any decent wodge of papers get in touch.

I'm in New Brighton but can drive and pick them up from anywhere on Wirral.

Cheers

France and Brazil ? There's a 450 kilometre border between France and Germany, does that mean anything ?

Honestly mate your best bet is cash converters.

That Cannondale bike second hand is at best £200, the phone £140 so being generous £350. Nobody is going to sell a full-sus bike for £350. Unless it's one of them retro 2005 Y frame ones...

As for a downhill bike, you'll be lucky to get a half decent drivetrain for a downhill bike for £350 yet alone a full bike.

Maybe check facebook marketplace for a nicked Canyon Sender or YT Tues but nobody with any sanity would swap a dh rig for an old iphone and hardtail budget mountain bike.

Fine, no worries. I had lazer treatment there this year, after a cataract op about 3 yrs ago, it took about 3 mins. They were very good and my optician said my eyesight was virtually perfect afterwards. After my original operation, which was about 10 mins only on the operating table and after I hadn't been able to drive for weeks, I was driving again 2 days later.
A whole new world lies ahead.

Its alright innit. The vast hordes of largely east europeans here can now get free documents proving they are permitted to stay. Meanwhile it cost me £1500 in ilr and citizenship to bring my daughter here from Africa. Disgusting how the non EU peeps are treated
