As most of you know ive had several problems with my manifold, and it started to blow again so i have managed to get hold of a new manifold and fit it...i have decided to post this as a guide to changing the manifold

I hope this is useful and informative to somebody

Tools required for this job are as follows..

you dont need all of this, all you need is a 13mm and 10mm add ons for your ratchet and also extened pieces of the same size...

Also needed are..

Manifold (obviously)
Manifold Gasket
Downpipe Gasket
WD40 (nuts may have coroded or be very stiff)
Sanding Block

and also this guy as he leant me his lovely shiney socket set laugh

Firstly you need to remove heat shield from the manfiold

Then you need to remove the 3 nuts that connect the manifold to the down pipe... its better to remove the nuts from the downpipe first as it means there will be no movement in the manifold where as if you remove the nuts from the manifold to engine first it will move around when you try to undo the downpipe nuts wink

Then remove the five nuts from the manifold to engine... 3 are on the top and 2 are on the underside of the manifold.....

the remove manifold and remove gaskets from the manifold and downpipe....

as you can see here there is a big difference, the old downpipe gasket is corroded and withered away and the new one is nice and shiney laugh

and here is a pic of the new manifold gasket compared to the old one i took off...

here is a picture of my old manifold when i took it off, as you can see one of the holes has lots of black dust around it that shows where it was blowing from wink

And in comparison here is the new manifold im putting on laugh
there are no blow marks and its nice and smooth

[Linked Image]

Then you need to get to work on smoothing off any bits of puttie or general crap that has gathered around the holes of the engine and also the same applies to the manifold and downpipe entries...it must be smooth

you then need to push manifold back on and tighten the 5 nuts on the manifold and the downpipe...

once you have done this and the manifold is attatched, you need to put the heat shield back on....

also whilst i was at it i repaired the damaged warm air intake from the heat shield...

once you are complete turn the engine on and let it run itself in for a bit and after a few mins of idling all the crap should be out the exhaust and your ready to rock wink

hope this has helped or will help with anyone that has a manifold problem

also i would like to say this is all typed by me which is why there are probably typo mistakes and it is not copied and pasted from somewere else...lol

cheers

aggy

Sometimes the bolts on the manifold are corroded beyond belief and won't come off (without stripping the head).
Before putting the new bolts on, you can get some thread lubricant that has microscopic balls in. The lubricatn burns off with the heat, but the balls they there and make undoing them again easypeasy.
