my great aunt liz lives in the flats nearby, i think its called union house and is the only towerblock. memories of her flat on (or near) the top with the old binoculars and looking at the ships coming in the mersey. as for the town hall i went down the steps onto the prom on a bmx and lived, seemed a good idea at the time. I always loved that building, any chance of a pic of the rear looking up the million steps to the building??

In the early 80's I had reason to go into the roof space and there are still 3 or 4 searchlights from the war and also the RSJ's supporting the roof are the original after the blitz when the building was bombed and are full of shrapnell holes.

I won a competition when I was in primary school to go up to the top and watch the Queen travel up the Mersey on the the original Royal Iris. One of the facts I remember is that the town hall is actually built back to front. The entrance we use today is actually the rear and the grand stepped entrance to the rear is actually the front. Also it was used as a military hospital during the war .
It looks so nice untill you turn around and see the rundown area its in a shame that such an important building is surrounded by deralict and ruined buildings. Still it shows the councils commitment to the Seacombe and Egremont areas.
