On April the 27th time of the day to be confirmed.
These Cranes are being demolished.

Apparently there is one leg that will be removed
and then "Hopefully" they will fall over?

So lots of room for mistakes there then.

27th is a Sunday.

Thank you to my source ;\)

Any idea what time of day they intend to do the deed? I would hate to miss it.

Yep, these beauties are coming down!!
Sunday 27th, aprox 9am im told today.
The idea is to clear the quayside and lay down sand from the nearby unused sand silos. then 1 quayside leg is to be partly cut thru ( gas axe! ) and a steel blast box ( to control and intensify the blast! ) is to be welded around the back of that leg.
On the day, explosives will be strapped to the inside of that leg ( only one on each crane! ) inside the blast box and a cage and sandbagging piled around to control the blast.
The idea is to blast a leg and make the crane fall onto the sand coated quayside ( sand to prevent damaging the quay surface ) also will be taking out two old light towers in their way!
Probs is that the cabs contain aspestos and need to be removed seperatly by hand / crane beforehand, starting tomorrow,16th.
Ther will be a strict cordoned off area of the surrounding roads, but i think you will all get a good view either on the main corporation road or opposite the docks just over the duke st bridge at the back of the cafe.
Me, im sitting IN the docks, ringside seat!!!! Ant changes will post em asap

Let's hope the weather is good. I think I will go on the opposite side and set up the vidcam + the SLR with a long lens.

I too have photographed those cranes many time since I first stsrted with a camera in the late 1950s. Local landmark they are

Apparently they haven't been used for years...
They can only lift 40 tonn.

Probably maintenance and certification (Health and Safety) is the reason they stopped being used.

I believe the current price of scrap metal could be an incentive.

Sad that they're going - I thought they could make a great focal point for the new Wirral Waters development like where there are one or two cranes left in Canary Wharf in London.

It's progress I guess.....

I had a look around today - it will be difficult to get onto the quayside opposite so I may have to stay arond Duke St bridge - unless any of you "moles" know a way in elsewhere.
