Hi, just wondering about peoples thoughts on my daughter really. She has a 9 week summer holiday from school this year (incredible I know - not happy one bit!), and absolutely nothing to do in the week.

She would happily work for 5 days, but would probably prefer 2 or 3 days really, they don't even have to be full days. Pay isn't an issue, anything really would do. She lives in the Oxton area but is quite able to travel to most of Wirral or Liverpool.

She has had a paid job at the stables that she has ridden at for the last few years but it's only at the weekend and isn't available this year as she now volunteers weekends at another stables for a wider range of experiences. Her work at the stables has given her quite wide experiences with others of the same age, as well as young kids, young people with disabilities as well as adults. She is eager and happy to work doing anything really.

So if anyone needs someone or knows of somewhere that would employ a 15 year old, let me know. I'm not doing this for her, just testing the water really.

pont 1: 9 weeks... really??? jesus christ!

point 2: would she consider voluntary work??? it looks better on a future CV if it were voluntary than paid. though obviously to be paid is nice xD just as voluntary work opens more doors as employers aren't paying you, they appreciate the help. just something to consider, otherwise what areas would she like to work in?

Thanks for the advice. She is doing voluntary work at weekends now, she gave up her paid position at the stables for a volunteer role at another stables. She isn't getting paid any more but works Sat and Sun so a few pennies would be good for her really, especially as she loves the cinema so much I am struggling to afford to keep letting her go.

And 9 weeks, I know. Shocking, I still keep checking the school diary just to make sure!!

She said she would do anything, but she has two loves, one is the outdoors, horses, walking, riding and the other is a fascination to Cinema and Music, pretty much like every other kid her age. She is very meticulous and hard working, perhaps some admin, filing work would be good. She wants to go into law, so some office experience might be interesting.

I have my first job at 10, 1 hour a day stocking the fridge in a newsagents after school. Then I worked in the morning in a Green Grocers, and the afternoon in a pet shop, all on a Saturday. I have always been really FOR kids doing work.

I will see about the voluntary side of things too, I suppose the main thing is for her to do something with her summer that she would enjoy and get something out of.

sorry only got half of the post .. my oldest daughter has worked from the age of 16 ,part time till she was 18 ..and full time ever since . i hope every young person who wants to work should be paid for the hours thet put in ..

I think a young person who has parents or other adults paying rent/mortgage and bills don't need as much per hour as an adult on a living wage, or even minimum wage, but I would like my daughter to get something for extra work over and above her weekend voluntary work. I was 10 and worked for £1 an hour, then at 13 got £1.50 an hour in one shop for the mornings and £2.50 an hour for afternoons in another shop on a Saturday. That earned me about £21 per week. At that time, on the dole or Income Support, you got £19 per week to live on, so I reckon I had it pretty good.

I hope she finds something. I heard the WH Smith might take under 16s but only on a Saturday which is a shame.

good for you for encouraging your daughter to work at such a young age, it will give her confidence and character which will stand her in good stead for the rest of her life: I sincerely hope she finds something that suits her.

two of my daughters started at 15 in the seaside cafe and the donut/icecream shop on the prom . only temp for the summer but it gave them both some experience to get other jobs when they turned 16. give them a try when it starts getting warmer.

The laws on child employment are much more strict these days.

As she's interested in law, I'd suggest that she rings round solicitors to see if she can get some sort of internship over the summer.

My 16 year old has been trying to find weekend work since she was 13, unfortunately due to H&S and insurance costs many employers simply say no. She has tried local shops etc and no joy at all, maybe 10% take her number and 90% just say they wont employ kids who are still in school.
