I see that the rush for temp Xmas jobs is now on. I applied to Boots yesterday and got an email back already saying I had "missed out" this time!

My daughter got the exact same response. Why do they bother advertising their jobs if there really are none to be had? It's very frustrating

They've said the same to me twice now But did offer an interview once years ago and I got my dates mixed up and missed it! So it is possible!
