Our place is always taking on.

At your age it would be an office junior. it's working in a solicitors based in seacombe.

If your interested give us aPM and i'll give you somemore info.

Would it afect me geting the job cause im dislexic ?
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 11th Jan 2008 1:06pm
a large percentage of people in this day and age are dyslexic, years ago it wasn't even picked up on and they where classed as thick or just stupid. it is more widely accepted and understood in this day and age.
Posted By: Brummy_Ben Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 11th Jan 2008 1:48pm
when you say office junior is that aimed at me or sean ?
Posted By: Civic_Coupe_Sean Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 11th Jan 2008 1:49pm
Probs both Ben as we both young lol
Posted By: Brummy_Ben Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 11th Jan 2008 1:58pm
i was just wondering as im only 17 a teenager and your 21 adult so i was thinking if it was office "junior" lol be great if we could both get a job there laugh
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 11th Jan 2008 2:11pm
Sorry i don't know your names but whoever is 17 would be classed as a junior. there is a possibility that you could both be classed as juniors or at the age of 21 if you have customer services experience or telephone skills could possibly come into my department.

however remember it is a solicitors office, but it so laid back it's almost falling over.

The thing is random members of the public don't want to sleep with you if they only see you once, the people you work with in a closed environment are gonna know you better so you can work on them. or take them the pub at lunch give them some beer google and then your ass goes up and down like a fiddlers elbow in no time

Millfold Insulation is taking on people as far as i know around now, they ar based on the deeside industrial estate, wage is ok the bonus is the quicker you get the less work you do.

Ask Paul Hughes at Scantec if their is any work going in the engineering department, their may be an apprenticeship going through one of their company's they sub contract to, comapny in question is Thurstons Building Solutions,

Are you going for it wheels?
Posted By: Civic_Coupe_Sean Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 6:06pm
Will send them my cv, Cheers Waddi, I applied for another 10 jobs today online and i was on my way to pick Ben up from work i got a phone call and i got a interview at maccys on fri raftl
Posted By: Waddi Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 6:29pm
Which Maccys. If you play it right at Maccys you can work your way up the ladder. its not the dead end job it once was. I wouldnt want to work there thou. they look like they work too hard at rush hour, very hectic and probably stressful.
Posted By: Civic_Coupe_Sean Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 6:34pm
The one we are all meeting at on thu haha (The Rock),

The way i look at it is its a job for now and money and i can still look for a job that i want while working at maccys and getting a income smile
Posted By: Wheels Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 6:49pm
moneys money. do what you gotta do to get paid.

Yeh waddi i phoned them and they are sending out the papers to me. said it was 25k a year?
Posted By: Waddi Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 6:59pm
You can use Maccys free wifi to look for jobs on the net.

Its confusing Wheels, There are so many different pay structures and shift rota's in different departments of the site.

Their are 2 factories on the 1 site.
I work in whats known as bromborough 2 which is where we make the Nestle Cheerios and now we make Bran flakes for Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Waitrose, etc aswell.
Bromborough 1 is where the Supermarket cereals are made, and each department has its own pay structure and rota. The jobs that I know of are in The Flakes department - Cornflakes, Frosted Flakes, Choco Flakes. but they have just had a big rota change to include the factory to be open every other weekend, which resulted in a big pay rise to 25k.

if you want/need any info PM me.
Posted By: Davey_Martin Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 6:59pm
i sent out 25 letters with CV's, filled in numerous application forms and attended about 5 interviews before i got a job - yes, i only got 5 places contact me back for an interview... the rest i just got no reply or letters saying sorry to inform you that you havent been picked for interviewing blah blah blah

it's a tiring thing getting a job but it's worth it when u land urself in one u enjoy... money might be shit but if u get on with the ppl that's more than half the battle
Posted By: Wheels Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 7:25pm
cheers waddi

my uncle use to work there, he told me about the job today (over xbox live headset while playing COD lol ) he told me about the two sites and continental shifts. any info or tips would be great, even just what to expect or anything bad about the job?.
Posted By: Davey_Martin Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 6th Feb 2008 7:31pm
i worked there for a couple months ages ago through an agency, same one waddi works in... all i did was put boxes in a machine which then packaged the packs of cereal further down the line... can vaguely remember eptyin huge backs of cereal into a machine but i cant really remember much else about the job... ppl were sound tho
Posted By: chiccy Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 8th Feb 2008 9:56pm
sean,.,, the odeon in bromborough are holding an open day on the 26th feb to recruit new staff.my bro works there he told me... either get intouch with job center to find out times or try odeon direct...! hope that helps ya mate xx
Posted By: Davey_Martin Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 8th Feb 2008 10:16pm
lol can remember gettin kicked out the odeon... was around xmas time a few yrs ago, went along with mates to watch mean machine i think it was... made the mistake of drinkin half a litre of voddy straight (to myself, others had their own booze lol) before we went in there - went to the toilets to clean the grass off our shoes n the cleaner was in there goin mad cos he'd just cleaned it... he went n got door staff or wotever they were and they chucked us out - memories lol

could be a decent place to work... even better if u get free popcorn lol

did you apply for the coffin making Job?

Matty, I think JJB take on at easter, as it is the start of a new season and people buy new clothes for the new season, as its going to spring, many people will be buying sports wear as the weather will be warming up a bit. also a lot of people buy bikes as a way of transport over the warmer months. Might not be the exact reason but just my thoughts.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 14th Feb 2008 5:43am
I wanna work in Maccies... I only wanna work there for the food at the end of the shift's lol!! But man it would be sound haha! Nothing wrong with working at maccie's, yeah okay most of the peeps who work there are doghnuts, but its a job ffs, and a decent one tbh with half decent prospect's and pay if ya stay there long...

No job is really that bad, it just depends what you want from life imho. Some people clean sewers as a career for NMW but they enjoy the job for whatever reason, personally id hate it as would most people, but I can't really knock it cos its a job, and if the person like's it then fair do's to them!!

Id rather work in a sewer then have no money at all.

Yeah Waddi, you could have a good point there tbh!!

Received this morning from northwest ship repairers:

"Thank you for you recent application for work with our company. We are currently collating CVs and will shortly be calling people for interview for the various positions advertised. If you have not heard from us in 4 weeks then you have unfortunately not been short listed for any of the positions, how ever we will hold your CV on file for 6 months and should a suitable position arise we will contact you".

"May i take this opportunity to wish you every success for the future."

Now i may be getting used to this type of rejection but does this sound like a polite thanks but NO thanks no

I had a job a Burger King a few years back - it was boring and really hot in the back when you were cooking but you're right it paid more than the dole and I was knackered every night - you did an honest day's work. The worst thing I remember was although I initially I was really excited about the free meal on my breaks - the smell of the food really put me off and I started to take sandwiches instead!

That's exactly what I'm doing happy It's hard work as I have to pay for some things out of my benefit, but it's going to be worth it! At least this way I know I've worked hard for it so I'll appreciate it more.

Wasn't meaning it in an offensive way btw.
You're guaranteed a decent 30k+ job after it just for 3 - 4 years of your life.;)

I'm afraid it doesn't work that way these days, many graduates start at not much more than £12K, many take more than a year to find any job.

The statistics don't show this correctly because they only look at graduate jobs - many graduates take a job that is not counted as a graduate job. They also have a bad habit of asking employers not the graduates, they especially use graduate agency figures which clearly have a vested interest as well as a narrow outlook.

Then there are the people who drop out or fail .....
Posted By: Wench Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 22nd Jan 2009 1:20am
Depends what you graduate in. I'm doing Law so I'm pretty lucky happy
Posted By: MissGuided Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 22nd Jan 2009 10:05am
I have a degree in Psychology but then so does every second graduate I talk to. Its just a degree and I could never have a career just with that. I would have to specialise - Clinical, Forensic. But I just can't be arsed lol
My life is too busy for further study.
I may do counselling one day but even that means doing courses and then finding a voluntary position to get your foot in the door. Heaven knows I've had enough major life events/traumas to empathise with other people's misery!

This may be of interest to people looking for Civil service jobs.
There is a Jobs Fair at:

BT convention Centre
100 Queens Wharf (next to Echo Arena)
Liverpool

You may need to telephone to book a slot.

Good Luck.

I've not tried it. Must admit it did look odd.
It was given to me by a friend in careers. Perhaps people could ask at Job Centre etc. I'll ask him for a real number!

just qualified as a counsellor. Would recommend getting your foot in the door by doing voluntary work in an agency that also offers counselling placements. Competition is fierce for placements.

what do you do matt a read your my space and your job sounds great can you show me how to do this
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 26th Jul 2009 12:27pm
As little as possible, usually its a case of 4 hours per month making sure clients are paying, and another 4 - 8 hours dealing with customer support requests (I myself mainly cover email support, but am involved in a race with my techs to get to tickets first).

Last month was hard though, was doing 22 hours days for about two weeks, literally 1 - 2 hours sleep a day. All back to normal now though.

In general, when things are going good, its the best job in the world, I spend half my time on days out etc enjoying myself, theme parks etc. But its a horrible job at times, in the fact that it can eat up all your time as well, though thats a very rare occurence, it does happen from time to time.

The only thing I really am starting to hate about it, is as im getting older, im starting to want a 9-5 job - not for the hours etc, but mainly so when I finish work, i finish work till the next day etc. At present, im on call 24/7, wherever I am in the UK, I have a "pocket laptop" in my pocket and ready to go to fix problems, and am alerted by both SMS and email to anything and everything that goes on with the business, so there is literally no chance of actually getting away from it.

Also, I dont like to go abroad because the last two times I have done, my chief technician has had issues with authorization for potentially financial requests from one of the data centres, despite prior-notification and authorization being granted to them by myself. Basically, I like to keep my watchful eye over everything, even if I don't deal with everything myself.

I could teach you how to do it, but it'd take me years, ive been in the industry for over 7 years now running the biz, and I still don't know anywhere near everything lol.

Im getting too old for it, so I may as well sell-up and have a 3 year holiday, take life easy and not a care in the world, for 3 years. And if the cat dies anytime soon, maybe travel the world lol. She'll outlive me though!!

I might be getting demoted to acting general manager over the next 6 months, so maybe no 3 year holiday! A nice job to walk into, but if what im hearing is correct, there may be other opportunities for anyone with qualifications and experience within a Linux enviroment from next year, remote work so not location dependent, if so I will keep peeps posted. I can accept CV's to be kept on file for anyone interested.

I got made redundant at the end of last year and lived on that (crappy) pay out for a while, but I'm now back working freelance which I've done in the past, but it gets to you after a while. It tends to take longer at home than it does in the office for some reason, and you end up chained to your computer. I get paid at the end of a contract, which could be 1 month to as much as 3 months. I work one five hour shift delivering pizzas - I quite like this as it gets me out of the house for easy peasy work and I get paid for it. I'd do a cleaning job if it came down to it, I'm not bothered as long as I'm left to work and the boss isn't an anus.
Jobs are always out there if you look properly - it also helps to apply on spec, but also to phone and ask for the recruitment manager, or personnel. I got my first good job not because I pestered them and they finally gave in! laugh

Hi there,
I'm a soon to be qualified RMN, have put feelers out for a job with agencies however, if anyone knows of a fulltime position going, either an EMI. LD or Secure (Low - High) I would be really interested. I've worked in mainly forensic placements (high secure) Primary Care, Drugs and Alcohol.

Get my PIN September,
Many thanks,

Plenty of RMNs required in Liverpool area but most aren't the type you are looking for.

I thought I had found the ideal job for me as a DHL deliverer using my own car but they insisted I had to cover my own holidays myself. This translated into friends and family (their words not mine). I don't have anyone to rely on so they put my application to the bottom of the pile which is annoying when they stated at interview that they already staff on their books in the area I was applying for work in. How hard would it be for them to give me local contacts so that we could cover each others holidays?

Most employers (not all) can only see what THEY want these days, and bare no consideration to the wants and needs of others, It just seems as if they are taking advantage of the tight economic climate and assuming that if they shout "jump" everyone will ask how high!

Hi folks my son (31) has recently moved from Essex to be with us here in Birkenhead. He has spent 15 years working for the same shop and has seen 3 differnet owners come and go but he still remained, almost part of the furniture! He is looking for retail based work, or even the chance to start in a garage as he has had some experience in repairs as his dad has been a mechanic for well over 35 years. So if anyone could help us in the right direction, all advice wanted!! #Thanks Jess grin

Anyone tried Dave Plucks? Don't know if they taking on but they do have a high turnover of staff, might be worth while enquiring.

Have a look for jobs with Oltec Group (security work), I know that they are always looking for guards - just send in a CV to their head office in Wigan!

Also you can work for the company whilst training to get your license, and they just take it out of your wages every month so you dont even notice it's going.....

nice find, just gonna take a look now..thanks
Posted By: Jobneeded67 Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 24th Aug 2011 12:02pm
Don't you have to sit a 70-odd online personality questionnaire for this vacancy?
Posted By: GrandMasterFlash Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 24th Aug 2011 2:19pm
Nope, normally you do but the christmas ones they don't even ask for job history or anything, just available hours smile
Posted By: GrandMasterFlash Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 25th Aug 2011 10:01am
Oh sorry, just got an email saying i've passed the first stage of the boots interview so now have to do the assessment, the 70 odd questions thing, so yeah you do have to do it!
Posted By: GrandMasterFlash Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 25th Aug 2011 2:25pm
Sorry, posting again, can't edit the above post now. Anyway I did the assessment thing and they've changed it, it's not a 70 question agree/disagree thing, it's like situations and what your most and least preferred options are, then 24 questions on which of two statements is most like you. It says it'll take 35 minutes but it took me about fifteen at the most smile

Oh no, why can't they scrap these ridiculous tests? I hate them!
Posted By: reddragon Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 2nd Sep 2011 11:31am
they set these tests to give prospective employers an insight as to whether a candidate would/will be suitable for a vacancy that might arise. If you want/need a job then just do the test if you don't do it then you will/could be waiting for a long time

Cos it's easier than asking the same questons at an interview?

deffo good point there GMF

JobNeeded why are you complaining about it? If you're that desperate for a job you should just be doing it, i'm not desperate cos i'm a student but I still sat through it all. Maybe if you put as much effort into applying for jobs as you do into whinging on here you'd be fine!
Posted By: Jobneeded67 Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 2nd Sep 2011 12:04pm
When I tried to complete the Boots online assessment, I found that no new questionnaire displayed, just one I completed a few years ago, when I applied for temp Xmas work. But this was marked as already completed.

Has anybody else encountered this problem.
Posted By: GrandMasterFlash Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 2nd Sep 2011 12:07pm
Yeah cos they email you with the questionaire after you've passed the first stage of the application. You don't just apply then do the test anymore.
Posted By: Jobneeded67 Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 2nd Sep 2011 2:16pm
Cheers. Hope I've passed the first page.

I notice a lot of these retail employers now are suing these lengthy online questionnaires to sift out candidates.
Posted By: GrandMasterFlash Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 2nd Sep 2011 2:38pm
Yeah that's the point of them!
what's better, get us all to answer the questions at home and interview the ones who know what they're doing, or get staff to stop doing their jobs to interiew every applicant only to find out 2/3s of them haven't got a clue about customer service or whatever? Obviously the first one, and I say this as someone who didn't pass the Boots questionairre stage so I don't mean it in an arrogant way or anything!

Boots have got quite a few christmas jobs going (yes you'll have to do an online test!), Phones4U and Past Times both in Liverpool and the Card Factory in Birkenhead have christmas sales assistant jobs going. Pret a Manger in Chester also has vacancies but it doesn't say what hours they're looking for, you just apply online with what days you're available.

There's also a shop called Ada and Richmond opening in Liverpool One soon that says it's recruiting soon but I couldn't find how to apply on their website and forgot what it said on the shop blush But might be worth a look, it's a 'fast food' place to do with oats!

Exactly! yes
Posted By: puligan Re: Any Jobs Going? Looking for Work - 4th Jan 2012 8:46pm
Just being pedantic but it isn't 18 pages of jobs, it is 18 pages of posts about a handful of jobs. The jobs are mostly part time and minimum wage. So don't be planning a future, a mortgage or a holiday on the stregth of them.

Nobody is taking anyone on these days unless they have EXPERIENCE, so as youngsters leave school or uni they have no chance, unless they are given a job because they know someone.

From my side I have offered jobs to a lot of people over the years, and although some have been excellent I'll list just a few of the things EMPLOYERS have to cope with:

Applications forms filled in for them by job centre staff as they can't write/spell/read, but don't mention this at any point.
Failing to turn up for interviews.
Turning up with all their friends.
Turning up wearing their pj's
Being offered a job then never seeing them again
Asking for a weeks wage advance, on their first day.
Taking a three week holiday two weeks after starting, but not mentioning it as "it was booked before I started".
Claiming to have a fear of phones so can't answer the works phone, but is quite happy to chat on their mobile.
Thinking that logging into hard-core porn is okay if "it was quiet" (this was a teenage girl)
Can't do any work that afternoon as they had their nails done at dinnertime, well go home then, will I still get paid, err, no.
Turns up late EVERY day, turned out to be a late night WOW player.
Fell asleep in the break room (another WOW player)
Decides that closing time is the ideal time to go for a cigarette
Asks for every weekend off to look after their child, who turns out isn't even in the country
Goes on a callout and because it's quicker than expected goes home to play WOW

I could go on with lists of these all day, some funny, some quite serious, don't let me get started on certain peoples personal hygiene standards, it just seems that some people don't want to work and will do everything possible either not to get a job or to be fired from it when they do. It's either that or pj's are the business suits of today.

Looks like you managed to attract some rather special people there. Out of interest though, what type of conditions were you offering? Was it minimum wage?

Haha i can match The Dr's comments,i was on the interview panel for my last employers, its unbelievable what type of people the job centre send along for interviews!

Also it was for vacancies for £9 p/h.

I think everybody sees things from their own perspective, I remember a few years ago being offered some tickets for The Gadget Show or something similar and asked if anybody fancied going down for the day as it'd be a laugh, two staff asked if they'd be back by 6pm and if not would they get paid overtime. We didn't go.

You only find out over time what some people are like, I have a couple now that I would, and do, trust completely and have complete faith in, however I also have a couple that I always make sure are working in areas of "minimal contact" because I don't think that their bag of talent is quite as full as they think it is.

Just to answer some comments that have appeared as I was writing this, most people here know me because of the computer/mobile shop(s) that I have, and some of these are from there, but this isn't all I do, and some of the work is exceptionally well paid.

What, exactly, do you need on a CV that will enable you to get a job washing cars?

Seriously?

Especially since the last time I was there, there was a tallish dark haired lad who sponged my car down with a rolly in his mouth, dropping ash onto my windscreen.

I can see it now; "Special skills; tooth missing".
