United Utilities will be undertaking emergency repairs to a collapsed main line sewer along the 1540, following detection of large depressions in the carriageway.

A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: "For road safety reasons and due to the nature of works involved it will be necessary to install an emergency road closure to enable the contractor to carry out essential operations and ensure a safe working area is maintained.

"United Utilities have been instructed to complete this urgent work at the earliest opportunity to avoid any conflict with preparations for the Open Golf Championship event."

Through traffic will be diverted via Black Horse Hill, Frankby Road, Pump Lane, Heron Road and vice versa.

All diversion routes will be signed via mobile electronic message signs and temporary fixed traffic signs.

The road will be closed from Tuesday, April 15 for approximately two weeks.
