I notice that The Archers pub in Bromborough is up for sale, at £1,440,000 the price seems a bit steep!

So many pubs disappearing now which is a shame, although the smoking ban and cheap supermarket booze didn't help I expect frown

There will be investors out there.Who will buy it and turn them into 1 bedroomed flats or apartments. If its a quick sale the pub will sell for a bit lower than the actual asking price.

The reason for the high price tag...

Pubs are closing too because our lifestyles have changed, how many of us regularly goes to the pub on a weekday anymore?

Our grandads would come home from work, get fed by the wife and then off to the pub until closing. That hardly happens at all now and sadly the pub is fading away as it isn't supported anymore.

its actually really hard to compete with two meals for ten pound, cheap ale sector like wetherspoons , they control the market and its really difficult for independents to survive and get cheap drinks distributed to them.
its like everything in the uk now, ALL companies end up swallowed up by two or three mainstream monsters who control everthing from then on.
it makes the high street boring and its the same 'faces' all over the uk....sad
With this country being like the USA for fatness by 2050 these type of places help this insidious process flourish.
Even cannabis roof growing PEGGY GADFLYS is up for 300k in new brighton, that'll be flats soon.
Its a really old wrecked dump though.
If I won the lottery the last place id buy is an eating/drinking place, best invest in shares in companies who supply type two diabetes control drugs.....HA that's on the rise..

It is very sad, yes. I don't know of any 'Free' houses around now. Also, are there even any pubs at all that only serve drinks and maybe a packet of crisps/nuts? When I was in my teens, the only food you could hope to get in a pub was pork scratchings or kp nuts. Or, occasionally you'd get the SuperCockle man coming round with his basket.

Pubs now are restaurants that happen to serve drinks, they're not really pubs at all.

I remember The Archers when it was a pot smokers paradise. That certainly gave punters the munchies!

It was a pub full of real characters, the likes of which you just don't seem to get in many pubs now. Used to kick-off quite a bit though in the bar. handbag

Will have to think REALLY HARD to remember the last time I went to a pub for a Social event.... think

These days I tend to socialise with friends at home. Cook a good meal for them and take it from there....

No more smoking in pubs, let alone smoking pot.

Ah, happy daze!

It's since the smoking ban that all the pubs have turned into restaurants and the traditional pubs have all gone.

Yeah, they're called doorways! Anyway, don't smoke anymore.

Used to drink in the Oak, and The Brom as well once upon a time, but the Oak was a bit of an old man's pub as I seem to remember. oldman

I used to go to the Royal Oak all the time, in fact it's where I met my husband! I think for a time it was called the Twilight Cafe? I'd be in there most Thursday nights boogie-ing away to Alan Bates playing his records smile
Also, I wish I knew which pubs allow you to smoke indoors now? I know you prob can't say on here but oh, to be able to sit in a pub puffing on a fag is my idea of bliss !

It was more like the Twilight Zone whenever I went in there! I don't think I remember any music nights at all but then I never went in there all that often. Always seemed a bit cold in there, as well. Remember someone telling me it was haunted but they were probably just winding me up!

Will be sorry to see The Archers get replaced by a Nursing Home or flats.

Maybe we're talking of a different decade? During the mid 80's the back part of the Royal Oak (the doorway faced the A41) was known as The Twilight Cafe and was a pub disco.

Lived across from that place until i was 25, some 15 years ago not many weekends without a fight outside or the police in the Car Park, went in to the Archers a couple of years ago more of a drug den than a pub and if anyone was asked for ID they wouldn't be drinking
