few years back we used to be able to buy fresh caught fish from dovepoint in meoles straight off the boats, do they still sell straight off the boat or is there anywhere else that is handy.......the supermarket fish is so tasteless and washed out and expensive
i know arthur maddocks is still by the four bridges
There's a good fishmonger in Hoylake:

I think the guy by the four bridges buys his cheap as his boat never goes out.
West Kirby Morrison's have a wonderful fishmonger, the guy who runs it is a really great guy, knows what fish should be like and the prices in there are fantastic.
I tried the one in New brighton but they are no where near as good.
thanks for the replies folks but as an ex fishmonger i really dont rate the supermarkets especialy morrisons and i shop there a lot, their salmon is always spot on but the plaice, gurnard, and others is too old and heavily iced so it's then washed out..this i know through experience plaice should be ark sand coloured skin with bright orange spots, not the case with supermarkets
was one in west kirby opposite baths. couple of vans come round monthly from east coast
was one in west kirby opposite baths.
Sadly that's gone now.
The OP could try Wirral Farmers market on Saturday. There's at least two fishmongers there.
Arthur Maddocks does not catch the fish he sells his boat never leaves the dock.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Birkenhead Market, there's three fishmongers in a row and the guy who works in the middle one is sound. Get there early for whatever he has special today
Great for aquid and scallops.
what about his other boat do you watch that as well? he dosnt fish with the manx beauty!
