Apparently the 'blimp' lit up over the mersey is a goodyear 'blimp'. Does anyone know why?

It looks really good, I thought I'd had to much to drink when I first looked at it....looks alittel like a UFO

Following a series of flights in March and April earlier this year, Goodyear once again welcomes the return of its aerial safety ambassador to the UK.

The Goodyear Blimp will be flying across the UK throughout September and October as part of the 2011 Goodyear Safety Tour, so keep your eyes peeled for a chance to see it in the skies.

Haha I thought it was a ufo too. Was looking at it a bit too much when I was driving trying to figure out what it was!

Whenever I see an airship I think of The Simpsons where Homer is on the end of a piece of rope attached to the airship.

I saw this yesterday and there were people getting out of their cars to look at it - if I didn't know already I would've thought it was a UFO, looked amazing in the night sky.

its full of helium and they pump air in and out to go up and down

It flew right over where I work today. Could really hear the engines on it. Took a few photos, but because it's so high up, only came out as a shadowy blob against the sky.

It was great though because I haven't seen this for years.

When I got home though, I checked through some photos I'd scanned in, and I found a photo of the Goodyear Europa Airship I'd taken back on the 27th June 1981 (I was eight at the time ) when it flew over Birkenhead.

Unfortunately, I only have that one very distant shot of the Goodyear 'Europa' blimp I saw in 1981. Didn't have a camera with a zoom facility at the time.

Would be great to see if any other wiki posters have some other shots of it over the Wirral.

It was still flying around earlier this evening. Walked past the Kingsland on Borough Road earlier. Saw it hovering around in the sky above Tranmere.
