Could it just be the fuse in the plug ?
What's happened ?

All electrics are fine, thanks, Mark. It's just not heating anything up. Back in the day my microwave oven cost a few bob but since my post I have checked the cost of a new one and they have come way down in price. So, it's probably as cheap to buy a new one as to have my old one repaired.

Often its the internal fuse or an overheat device but like you say, the price they are at not its not worth throwing money at in the hope that its a permanent fix.

My microwave (Sharp carousel) is 1986 vintage, and still going. The plastic surround on the door has even faded to match the kitchen walls! It's built like a tank. Any replacement is going to feel very small and tinny...
