Can anyone tell me why some of the trees on the way though Greasby are decorated with different coloured patchwork..I think it looks Great but I was wondering who did it and why...Thank You. Bernie46.
Its probably one of the schools. They do a similar thing in Heswall by Costa and Linghams opp Tesco.
Actually, it's a community project inspired by the work done by Port Sunlight Knitters outside their museum. People have been contributing pieces of knitting and crochet since summer, and a group has been meeting in the library and sewing it all together to fit various trees around Greasby. Now it's all being put on the trees, and should be in place in time for National Tree Week at the end of the month. It will stay there over the festive period, and hopefully cheer us through the dark boring days after the Christmas decorations are taken down. We have over 50 named contributors, and more who have put items in the library collection bin anonymously. The oldest contributor (that we know of) is 97, the youngest is just 5. The project's aim is to celebrate trees and the part they play in our local environment - and also simply to bring some extra smiles into Greasby!
There have been a lot of other effects so far - people making new friends, getting back in touch with old ones, newcomers being made to feel at home in Greasby, people rediscovering an interest in knitting or crochet, or taking it up for the first time - I could go on, but you get the picture! Already, a new 'Knit and Natter' group has grown from it, and future projects in aid of charity are being considered.
Thank You for the Info, What a great community idea, bringing awareness.
Just seen the ones around Greasby--nice colourful idea. Sort of "art" I can appreciate
There will be more going up around the shops by the weekend - have fun spotting them.
next thing you know they'll be knitting jumpers for homeless people
As it happens, most of the people involved knit for various charities too. A collection box will be put in one of the village shops in aid of a local charity (tbc) so if people like the display, they can make a donation. We are already thinking about what we can do for charity after this project.
All trees by the village shops are now decorated - have a look if you're passing through. Lots of interesting detail on them! We are putting collection boxes in a couple of local shops; if people like the display they can make a donation in aid of Barnardo's Young Carers in Wirral.
