I got a dog in August. He was 10 months old when I got him. He is ace responds well to training etc but I am struggling a little bit with one thing. When he is off his lead and sees a dog he bolts goes over to the dog barks and tries to incite a chase. It worries me because I can see him getting bitten or something worse by a less tolerant dog and also I can also imagine other dog owners irritation by this. I have tried so many things from the internet to try and stop this. He can heel his recall is good but once another dog appears regardless of what I do he is off! Any ideas how to stop this?

f he cant be trusted not to run off and pester other dogs when he's off his lead then I wouldn't let him off it around other dogs until he can. I have to do this with one of mine (not just other dogs either, he's mad on scents as well), like you say anything could happen really, the other dog might be aggressive or fearful of other dogs and I know how irritating it is for me to have another dog come bounding over to mine, especially when he's on his lead. I tried all sorts of training with him regarding recall. He knows exactly what I want him to do in regards to recall but he's a stubborn little bugger. If I judge that the distance between him and another dog is enough that he isn't likely to run off then he can be let off.

My other dog on the other hand is brilliant, in fact she rarely leaves my side when were out, if out in a wide open space she'll do little circuits of me or walk directly behind my legs.

Not helpful I know! doh

Around dogs he knows and he has met he is great. After he has been out and calmed down he much calmer. I keep my eyes open and put him back on his lead when I see other dog owners. He never runs out of sight and isn't aggressive or snappy it is just so frustrating!! He comes back within 10 seconds or so. He has been done. I can't really say if that made a difference as I sorted that a couple of weeks after I got him.

Might have to try dog class if anyone has any names or numbers etc.
