Where in Flaybrick cemetery is Brigadier Toosie's grave? He was otherwise known for his involvement on the Bridge on the River Qwai, played by Sir Alec Guiness. By the way Hollywood got the story 99% wrong!

Cheers Rocks, I've searched these sites but not even a mention of his name. Such a pity for a war hero, and a famous one at that.

I always thought he was buried in Landican.

His death was registered in Liverpool 1975,
his ashes are at Landican.

From Link
Toosey was a Justice of the Peace, High Sheriff of Lancashire, and raised funds for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. In 1974 he was awarded an honorary LLD by Liverpool University and was knighted. Phil Toosey died on 22nd December 1975. His ashes were buried in Landican Cemetery outside Birkenhead.

Great link bert. People like Toosey should be far better remembered.

As for 'The Bridge on the River Kwai', it's not the first time that Hollywood has falsified history.

I think perhaps this might be the Burma soldier whose daughter has given talks in the local libraries recently, so perhaps she has a website. I don't know her name

Thanks so much Bert for this link. This is the Lecture I heard locally, and is one of the best Lectures ever. Well worth watching in full on You Tube.

Hi not sure if I'm on the right thread but does anyone know if there was ever a cemetery or workhouse where the Ballantyne estate is now?
