Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of having solar panels fitted on their roof? I'm wondering what the pros and cons of having them, in particular I'm after any disadvantages to them such as potential problems with damaging the roof.

I'm sure they have to do a site survey but don't be fooled these do cost you to be fitted. I had a sales team at the door and i said are they free and they walked away.

Not sure if there is a cost but i would check.
ive heard of 20 yr contracts.

They will come down in price i'm sure of that.

In Tyne and Wear the Council has embraced this and fitted them to the OAP homes.

Wirral Council has just fitted them to the new houses at top end of Beechwood.

They do fit them for free but they take the money from the utilities companies for excess power they generate. Your house must more or less face south to qualify. If you check it out on the money saving expert site, that has all the details.
