While out shopping today, I have been given a £5 note from Gibralter. Can I spend it here? If not would my bank exchange it for a UK £5?

Many Thanks

It is not legal tender, in fact no other currency is inc. Scottish, although this is generally accepted as part of a gentlemens agreement.

I would return to the shop and tell them
Do not accept any Jersey, Guernsey or Isle of man currency either.

Interestingly enough, Scottish banknotes are not even legal tender in Scotland.

Although, to be fair, the whole concept of "legal tender" is generally misunderstood by most people.

Anyone wishing to dispose of money of any type, you are welcome to pop it into brown envelopes and put it through my letterbox. Thanks.
