I am planning to demolish a brick built double garage in the next few weeks but have no idea how to remove 2 13ft long RSJs from the ceiling apart from using props and an angle grinder. Any ideas?

How about some beam lifting equipment.

On another tack. How about the local scrapyard, they buy and sell this sort of thing.

I will have a word with scrapyard to see if they will help me remove them and get rid of them. I know they must be worth something but I'd accept just a few pounds if someone was prepared to do the hard work and then take them away.

Go to Wirral Hire and tell them what you are planning to do, they have a lifting machine exactly right for what you need.I have used this many times and I cant for the life of me remember what its called.
It has two arms and is operated by winding the handle to raise or lower as required, belive me it really does take the effort out of it.You will be able to hold the steel and grind it at the same time and in safety.

One of these perhaps? http://www.wirraltoolhire.com/30.html

This might be a good idea after all using two of them so we can cut the beams at each end then lower them onto bricks so they can be cut into sections. Would be easier than using props and cutting small sections off a bit at a time, which was what we were originally thinking.
Thanks for the suggestions moonstar and mikeb
