Does anyone know the answer to this. Basically, there is a small lane to do right turns into Magazine Road off the New Chester Road in Bromborough near to the Asda. It's hard to explain without a picture, but when the lights are on red, I want to know do I still have to wait behind the white lines level to the traffic lights, or can I enter the small lane to turn right into Magazine Road at any time. Copy and paste this link into your address bar and you will get a better idea of what I mean:

Yes you have to wait behind the line until the green arrow is telling you you can turn.

Copies of Highway Code readily available.

The stop line indicates you have to obay the traffic signals, i.e. you can only go over the stop line when you've got a green light or filter.

The only reason I ask is someone was in the car with me and I stopped at the line because the lights where on red, and the person with me said the traffic lights don't affect us, we can pass the line and wait at the second right turn arrow as can be seen in the picture. I said we could only go forward when the lights go green but they disagreed. Glad it cleared that one up.
