Hey guys, I'm hoping to go camping with a group of friends in the next month or so and was wondering where you might recommend? We aren't going to be loud but we'd preferably be somewhere that we don't need to worry about a family sleeping right next to us. Also the cheaper the better!

I was also going to say shell island. brilliant for groups. we used to go and we had 2 gazebos in the middle of our tents. word of advice though pick your spot wisely. choose somewhere with a bit of shelter as it can get quite windy sometimes

Glan llyn is a good site. it's in bala N.Wales, right on the shore of bala lake. It has clean showers/ toilets, you can have raised campfires & music till late- if any of your friends like canoeing/kyacking then the lake is free to use when staying there. i've also heard plassey near wrexham is ok, but never visited. I sometimes use ukcampsite.co.uk to find other sites. Go onto their maps & click "show all sites".

Happy camping.

I think we're actually looking at going to Shell Island. The only thing that worries me is that there's a group of us and we'll all be arriving on different days. Like I said we won't be causing any trouble but we'll make sure we're far enough away from anyone else that we don't disturb them. However Shell Island seems to be a little strict when it comes to allowing groups. Do you think this will be a problem?

You will be fine on Shell as it is so vast..A group of us are going at the end of the month (No kids..for a change) But as Jen said, look for somewhere sheltered as the wind can pick up!! Wherever you opt for..enjoy :))

We never had a problem with groups. There was 12 of us used to go but there were also bigger groups than us around

Also if you're arriving at different times they won't notice the group so much

We used to go to shell island but you need to choose a good spot. I had a rock digging in me one year and the next year woke up at the bottom of a hill, lol. It gets busy as well so sometimes you're stuck with whatever areas are left.

We found this site:-

http://www.dyffryn-seaside-estate.co.uk/

It's only 5 minutes from shell island and in my opinion is a better site to stay anyway. Prices may have changed since the last time I went but they charge by the tent. Shell island charge per person so if there's a group of you going it normally works out a lot cheaper staying at dyffryn. The facilities are better, the grass is like a crown green lawn and it's still virtually on the beach apart from the sand dunes. You can camp next to the dunes as well if you want to be away from the crowds and then the dunes act as a bit more cover from the wind. If you want you could go to both but I'll virtually guarantee that you won't go back to shell island after going to dyffryn.
Also you can actually knock the tent pegs into the ground wherever you want to hammer

As previously mentioned, Glan llyn is another good site!

Shell Island or Hewitts at Benlech in Anglesey, if you use the top field they dont mind about noise, two mins to the beach and two mins to Benlech town centre (pubs and chippys)

Looks like it'll probably be Shell Island.
It say's in their rules that you can only have a max of 3 couples per group.
Not sure about us but I know there's a little more than 6 of us and we're not evenly mixed genders.

But somebody told me they have those strict rules to deter teenagers and they're not too bothered about adults.

They are fairly relaxed about the rules as long as you dont make tits of yourselves but in the summer months it does get very very busy

Shell are more relaxed about groups these days BUT - they are wary of groups of "younger sets"

- - - And PLEASE knock off the radio/ CD players etc at 11pm. Chattering etc will go on to the early hours of course but they can be strict about music playing
