hi people, just wondering if anyone has any info on the red lasers that have appeared in the queensway tunnel? while driving through in the early hours this morning i was zapped by a few of them (admittedly i was driving at slightly over 30mph..but not by much).i,m just having a guess that they are a new form of speed trap but any idea if they work on average speed? oh well if they are what i suspect they are i think i must be one of the very first victims to what will be yet another very financialy rewarding scheme for the powers that be!!!! mad....oh...nearly forgot...do speed camerad areas have to be made known with warning signs?

The Queensway tunnel is 30mph

Quote
In the Kingsway Tunnels the maximum speed for vehicles shall be
40 mph and, unless prevented by traffic conditions, the minimum speed
shall be 10 mph provided that a Mersey Tunnels police officer or other
authorised officer may permit a vehicle to enter the Kingsway Tunnels
and proceed in the left-hand lane of a carriageway at a speed less than
10 mph at such time or times as the said officer shall specify.

In the Queensway Tunnel, for vehicles using the left-hand lane of a
carriageway the maximum speed shall be 30 mph and, unless
prevented by traffic conditions, the minimum speed shall be 10 mph
provided that a Mersey Tunnels police officer or other authorised officer
may permit a vehicle to enter the Queensway Tunnel and proceed in
the left-hand lane of a carriageway at a speed less than 10 mph at
such time or times as the said officer shall specify.

In the Queensway Tunnel, for vehicles using the right-hand lane or
lanes of a carriageway, the maximum speed shall be 30 mph and,
unless prevented by traffic conditions, the minimum speed shall be
20 mph.

I went through the B'head tunnel on Friday. I too saw the red (laser looking) light. Within a black shrouded housing. It was pointing at a similar shielded unit about 3 feet away. I took this to be visibility detectors ?? They automatically trigger additional fan speed in the ventilation system if they detect too much airborn crud from exhausts, smoke from a vehicle fire etc.

I hope I'm right on this. If not, disregard all the above rhubarb AND I may well have a ticket on it's way. I was doing about 34mph. Tut-tut.

Next person to go on a tunnel tour, ask the people that know !
