Thanks for this beer money, I could even smell the burning rubber watching it :-) . The good old days, used to go every Sunday with my dad. Health and safety at its best lol.
Goodness, I'd forgotten all about that! I went along with my friend and her Dad once - they were into it, but it didn't attract me so much. I might even have a couple of snapshots somewhere, but as I recall they were mostly of people's heads, as we were fairly well back, so not up to much.
i seem to remember stories that my mum was hit by a stray wheel/tyre whilst watching this! (the real thing not the video ha)
I also seem to remember that a girl got killed in the 70's by a wheel flying off into the crowd?
must be a different person - my mums definately still here....unless.....!!
Just been looking at the fabulous video. The young lad at the start with the chequered flag looks like me, I used to be a driver with the Road Hog Team with my brother and friend my number was 117 & won many times.
just seen a post re banger racing at new brighton, I met my husband due to banger racing! he came to Birkenhead General Hospital (the Borough) following an accident, I started going to watch him and 38 years later we are still together!! we have some great memories and a few photos, does anyone remember the Road Hogs team? he was number 117, his brother was 121 and their mate was 116. we had a great time and he even won a few trophies.
does anyone have any more photos or old video footage? would love to see it.
